I take the 25th anniversary of Level-5 as an occation to speak about Ni No Kuni. While Level-5 does for sure a lot creative games, Ni No Kuni is for me the best franchise of them. (I played Wrath of the White Witch and Revenant Kingdom) Have you played these game and what do you think about them?

On of the big seeling points of the Franchise is the artwork, that got inspired by Studio ghibli productions. That probably the reason i even start to play these games. Even the world building is something that could be out of a ghibli movie.

The gameplay of the different games couldn't be more different. Level-5 likes to change their battley system in their game, so Wrath of the White Witch is more a variation of a ATB monster catching game while Revenant Kingdom is a straight action game. Nino Kumi Wrath of the White Witch is a game with one of the most unique battle systems (~~Until we got Yokai Watch 4~~), but at the same time Revenant Kingdom can't be more plain and generic.

While it seems the critic about Revenant Kingdom is better than Wrath of the White Witch, i would say Wrath of the White Witch was a far better game. Revenant Kingdom was a lot about building the Kingdom and travel to other Kingdom with their different conflics and that was alright, but was nothing i could play endlessly. Wrath of the White Witch has much more funny dialogues and better told story. Also the battle system was much more fun to play. The Action gameplay of the second game was just not appealing enough, there are far better one out there. While Revenant Kingdom is a good game, i was a bit disappointed about it.

Netherless of my disappointment about the second game, i would like to see a third mainline game.

I want to write something about story and world building, but i just don't get it properly together anymore.

Are there some games you like, but it didn't get much attention or weren't well received by critics? I play a lot of those games and of couse there are flaws in some of them, but i still had fun playing them.

Here are a few that came to my mind:

  • Magical Starsign: One of the game i had a lot fun while playing it was magical Starsign. I played it on the NDS, so it was for quite a while, but i haven't seen anyone mentioned that game online. Maybe it isn't that good, i don't know anymore, but i just had fun playing the game. I think it's a simple turn based game with some element, so nothing specail, but i like the character design.

  • I understand if you don't like the last year released Valkyrie Elysium, it could be another Valkyrie Profile game but it's only another action rpg. And yes the game has a horrible story, not like the other games of that franchise...but still i had fun playing it. Maybe mostly because of the battle system. It has a fast pased action battle system with perfect dodge and parry, so far quite normal. But i think the summoning of the Einhernjar is is better solved than other games and their auto battle party. And i like to fight against the bosses especialy the final boss (play the final boss so much).

  • God wars future past: for this i understand that there are a lot better tactical rpg's. But maybe i just played it on the perfect time to enjoy it. I think it is more or less like final fantasy tactics. I'm sure i startet the game because of the artstyle, but i end of like it because i don't know i guess fun playing it.

The Producer talks a bit about the difference to the original game.

  • For the Break mechanic, each enemy has a set shield value, and when that value reaches zero, enemies are stunned, meaning that all attacks performed against them count as critical hits
  • you are able to summon party member to do quick actions like healing, attacking and so on
  • fast travel to field area and initiating private actions from anywehrer inside a town
  • obliously the grafic is different

Seem a lot of you think it's nice that the Baldurs Gate dev took inspiration from a jrpg. Did the dev choose the correct game with Final Fantasy VII? What are your favorite chracters, character you really like or maybe an well written enemy that you hate?

They released a demo version for Cry Machina for all consoles and pc. This trailer sold the game a bit for me. I try the demo for sure because i like fast pased action games.

I haven't played a Person 3 game yet. I'm just curious, is there a reason for both of these game to coexist?

Persona 3 Reload is a remake from the original game Persona 3 game with additional Story scenes a battle system that is an upgrade from the Persona 5R battle system. And of course it has better graphic than the original Persona games.

Persona 3 Portable is the current version that got a release on modern consoles and Pc. I heared the version wasn't the best version acording to fan. Maybe because of missing cutscenes. But it's still a enhance version from the original Persona 3 game.

Sure Persona 3 Reload isn't released yet, but would you still recomend someone to play Persona 3 Portable or just wait for the Remake of it?

What characters from Trials of Mana do you choose to be in your 3-person party? And what classes do you select for those characters?

Square Enix has finally made it possible to play all of Final Fantasy 14 completely solo despite it being a massively multiplayer online game.

My next game i start will be Star Ocean First Departure R. And if i finsih that game fast enough i probably play either Persona 4 Golden or a rerun of Nier Replicant.

I also still play Final Fantasy XVI and Soulhackers 2 occasionally, because it's hard for me to finish these game.

Last month in only finisehd redemption reapers.

What do you intend to play?

I finished Redemption Reapers, a game probably barely someone care about you and yes it's a rather mid game with lot of weaknesses. But there are a few good things about this games as well and one of that is the music. I think all of the battle music is good, but i share here the best of them with you.

Chaos Rings Series (lemmy.today)
submitted 1 year ago by heygooberman@lemmy.today to c/jrpg@lemmy.zip

Does anyone remember the Chaos Rings games created by Square Enix? These were some of my favorite JRPG games back in the 2010s. The games were initially created for iOS devices, particularly the iPad. The latest in the series was Chaos Rings 3, which is still available for iOS and Android, but the previous games are no longer on the App Stores.

I would love for Square Enix to bring these games back for other platforms and maybe add a new one to the series.
