best kind of doomsday planning you can do is find out what kind of edible fruit tree grows natively in your area, finding out which of those you like, and planting them in your yard (if you're lucky enough to have one)
why limit yourself to your own yard? seed bomb your surroundings, become ungovernable.
Because I like my neighbors, also growing trees from seed does not work in my town. The wind never stops blowing so the trees grow horizontal. If you don't specifically cultivate the tree and tie it to stakes to make it grow vertical, the tree dies.
