The FBI's recruitment of Thiel as a CHS puts him among the bureau's most prominent assets, but he is not alone among right-wing figures who have collaborated with the bureau. Trump himself offered to help the FBI fight organized crime in Atlantic City in the early 1980s. Truth Social, the Trump-owned social-media company, has quietly tipped the FBI off to users who threaten violence, even as it seeks to cash in on their anger. At least two of the rioters who showed up to storm the Capitol on January 6 were also FBI informants, as was Enrique Tarrio, the Proud Boys leader who was sentenced to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy and other felonies stemming from the Capitol breach. Tarrio reportedly served as a source for federal and local law enforcement, assisting with the prosecution of more than a dozen people.

Peter Thiel changed his relationship with the Military-Spook-Industrial Complex to It’s complicated.

But seriously, under capitalism, the oligarchs, the state, and organized crime (including fascist gangs) always have symbiotic relationships.

Also, the FBI are cops, and all cops are bastards. They’re not going to save us from Trumpism or fascism. Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.

I mean yeah but Thiel pretends he has street cred and doesn't trust no feds. What a god damn chump.

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 year ago

What I think Thiel and his sycophants want is for him or someone in his circle to be made fascist god-emperor and so be commander-in-chief of the feds. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Enlightenment

Remember when Bush Jr was one of the worst things going. Not looking forward to the mess after Trump and his time is looked at as not as s bad based on whatever level of crazy is going on then.

I wonder if there will be a Spanish like Miracle (no one fought for the Fascism after Franco died, everyone fought against it) when people that currently support this shit show say they never did support it.

Fuck you I won't what you tell me.

May be an obvious thing to everybody else, but what do you mean by spook? Where I'm from we're careful using that word.

[-] QHC@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

It means the same as "spy", in my experience.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I was thinking less "spy" and more "fingermen" like in V for Vendetta but more secretive.

[-] FARTYSHARTBLAST@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

A spook is a CIA officer or maybe NSA (or at least some sort of spy if you're using the term more loosely).

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Covert government agent. Usually FBI, CIA, or spec ops

[-] totallynotarobot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

What’s the implication/meaning where you’re from? And where is that (if you’re comfortable sharing) so we all don’t put our foot in it when travelling there?

[-] DickFiasco@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Not OP, but in the U.S. it's an older racial slur for a black person.

[-] totallynotarobot@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Wow TIL thank you so much. I’ve literally only ever known it to mean “spy” so this is immensely valuable knowledge.

[-] DickFiasco@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

I've only ever heard it used in very rural areas and only by old people, so I'm not sure how relevant it is anymore. But, probably best to read the crowd before talking about spies or ghosts I guess.

[-] totallynotarobot@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

That’s very sensible and measured advice, DickFiasco. Thank you.

(Is there a Lemmy /rimjobsteve yet?)
