Horses are great, but so much work and money. Had them growing up and loved it so much. I can't afford my own horse right now, so I volunteer at a stables (watering and grooming and just helping out in general) and it's enough for me at the moment. I get riding lessons when I can afford them, but it's not on a consistent schedule like the volunteering.
I totally recommend that people get involved with horses in some way if they have the desire. There's a bond between humans and horses that's primal. It runs deeper than any other connection I've experienced. I feel closer to horses than any other creature. Just being in their presence is therapeutic.
Just make sure to stay safe if you aren't experienced with them and have someone teach you what you meed to know to not get stomped or kicked to death. I consider myself as experienced with interacting and being around them and all that, but there are still times where I have close calls.
