For this Wednesday Super Slop Night, first up is Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind (1980), a Hong Kong action-thriller about a quartet of youths who plan a bombing for the hell of it, and then, upon seeing the chaos they have inflicted, feel emboldened to try even more audacious acts of terrorism. Will anyone stop these sickos? I guess we’ll find out. Director is Tsui Hark, the guy behind Green Snake (1993) and Peking Opera Blues (1986), both of which we previously watched. This is considered one of his best films.

After that is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023), the big-budget adaptation of the ubiquitous fantasy tabletop RPG that asks, “what if we made a Marvel movie, but with D&D stuff?” Yes, expect a whole bunch of quips and other action-comedy silliness as a band of six adventurers, led by a bard (Chris Pine), raid a dungeon in search of a precious relic. The directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, previously made the thriller-comedy Game Night (2018), which we have not yet watched. This did receive good reviews, so we’ll give it a shot.
