♫ Brave Sir Kevin ran away! Bravely ran away away!

When danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled!

Yes, brave Sir Kevin turned about

And gallantly, he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet,

He beat a very brave retreat, Bravest of the brave, Sir Kevin! ♫

Guess Pelosi's hide-a-way office didn't bring him enough joy.

[-] Pronell@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That was his hand-picked replacement, not him.

Edit, I was wrong. Sorry.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 47 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure what he expected after they had to do the vote 15 times.

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

Even before the unprecedented 15 vote election, before the first vote was ever cast, McCarthy agreed to the specific change in the rules that allowed him to be ousted with a single motion. Read the link; this was demanded of McCarthy by unnamed interests on a conference call several days prior to the first day of voting.

House rules change every session; in and of itself a rule change is to be expected. But not this one.

This was planned, from before the beginning of the 118th session, by unnamed interests who wanted to be able to pull the trigger on guaranteed Congressional chaos, using a minimum number of actors, and have the guaranteed outcome of a Speakerless House. This is the condition to which McCarthy had to agree before even being considered, yet once he did he shot ahead of others who had far more support for the role of Speaker, like Jordan and Scalise.

Speaking for myself, when I look at who benefits, the exact timing of events, how a threatened government shutdown was again weaponized and how Ukraine aid is now 100% in limbo because of this bullshit, the more firmly convinced I become that Gaetz, Boebert, MTG and other hard-right "Freedom Caucus" members are actively being paid and/or blackmailed by Russia to ensure that NO governance actually takes place, and are receiving their directions to act on cue against the rest of Congress.

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

That feels like it's assuming a level of intention and competence that is absolutely not required of Gaetz or other Freedom Caucus members to do what they do.

Russian intelligence will take advantage of what they can get, and they're quite advantageous indeed, but I doubt payment or blackmail is even necessary.

[-] Dkarma@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

He said it because we have known for years the GOP takes Russian money. It's not unthinkable they would give more to certain ppl to get them to sabotage their own caucus.

[-] toned_chupacabra@lemm.ee 42 points 1 year ago

Do it, Kevin! That will reduce the Republican majority, because House rep vacancies need to be filled by a special election. The governor can't name an immediate replacement the way it works for Senate vacancies.

I don't know how long it takes under California to do a special election, but it is some non-trivial duration.

[-] Wrench@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Oh that's right! McCarthy is from CA.... wonder what his district is.

...

Bakersfield. Ahh. Yeah, that tracks.

[-] davidgro@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I once took a road trip through CA. What I remember about Bakersfield is that there was a poster at the train station we checked out, the poster was for "The Oil Experience".

[-] CylustheVirus@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

The armpit of the state. Oil Derricks in megachurch parking lots. Whole place smells. It's truly awful.

[-] chakan2@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Be careful what you wish for...that would almost ensure a protracted government shutdown.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Protracted government shutdown is the end of the US global dominance. Just like Trump, once you cut the purse strings the whole thing comes crashing down.

[-] June@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

P sure that’s going to happen anyway.

The MAGA caucus will literally eat their own faces to spite the democrats.

[-] dynamojoe@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago

I doubt it. Too much money involved. But if he quits I hope he goes nuclear on his own team. With receipts.

[-] Uniquitous@lemmy.one 13 points 1 year ago

If he had nukes he would've launched 'em by now. He's got nothing.

[-] Flag@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Does he have the grey matter faculties to do this tho?

[-] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago

To his credit, that would be the single best thing he's done for the country in his entire career.

[-] agitatedpotato@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 year ago

I can't even blame him for this, I wouldn't stick around to help someone clean up something they just kicked me out of.

[-] akai@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago

Whittle snowfwake got his feefees hurt...

[-] IHeartBadCode@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

But I thought Republicans were supposed to fuck those or something?

[-] akai@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Nah, they fuck around and find out

[-] KingGordon@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This just keeps on getting better. What a twatty twat.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

This is an extreme amount of twatness. I approve of this message.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

Reducing the Republican majority to really screw the next Speaker while getting some Board position that meets 4x/year for millions of dollars is probably the best way to go out if you're gonna be ousted as Speaker.

[-] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Cave-in McCarthy

[-] Nougat@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

McClintock:

“This depends entirely on several of the dissidents to disenthrall themselves from their decision and to repair the damage before it is too late. I appeal to them to act while there is still time.”

Oh, you appeal to them? That'll work for sure.

[-] andrewta@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

One article says he might be resigning the next says he's going to run for reelection.

[-] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 7 points 1 year ago

Considering he said he was going to be Speaker still, I’m calling bullshit on this.

[-] Prox@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

What a pussy.

[-] callouscomic@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

Pathetic. Just like Paul Ryan and Boehner. Losers can't just easily wield power so they quit. They weren't there to represent. They were there for power. Cry and take your ball home loser.

[-] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 year ago

But what if the door hits him one the way out? Someone might feel obliged to feign empathy for him, and no one should have to suffer like that.

[-] acceptable_pumpkin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You can’t fire me, I quit!

[-] Davel23@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Now if we can just get the rest of the House GOP to do the same...

[-] theodewere@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

haha i love it, the bravery, the heart, the courage all just pile up higher and higher with this guy lolol

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Taking his ball and going home.

[-] Arcane_Trixster@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

They took his balls. He's just going home.

Lmao this just keeps getting better
