Often wondered what it would take to flood our home, just doesn't seem possible. It's Florida, it's flat, water runs out every which way. The house is almost at the top of the neighborhood, one street is a little higher.
Most of the land around here has 2-3" topsoil and under that, sand all the way to China. Even when we dry up, it's not like other soils where the top turns hard. Only the paper-thin top layer needs soaked, and again, sand forever.
Looked at a NOAA flood map, we're not even close, despite the local creek. It would have to rise several meters, several meters across a broad area. There's nothing to focus water flow around here. Also, we're nowhere near worrying about storm surge from a hurricane.
Am I overconfident? Only thing I sweat is tornadoes, spontaneous or those spawned by hurricanes. Even then, this house's structure is well above code for the area.
