Blockading trade routes in general is a historical way wars start. The whole reason why Japan attacked America at Pearl Harbor was because America implemented an oil embargo on Japan. Most of Star Wars is based on WW2 so this isn’t much of a surprise really.

Star Wars is based on the Vietnam War.
Star Wars isn't just based on one thing. The empire definitely has a tint of Nazis, the plot is inspired by "The Hidden Fortress", and yeah the Rebels are part Viet Cong.
It’s a combination of the two. All the spaceship combat and the Empire aesthetics in general is all WW2.

TPM IS good in a lot of subtle ways that were completely nullified by Lucas chickening out on making Jar Jar a sith lord. Watch* again with an eye on JJB and you'll notice him subtly manipulating all the characters and action in the movie.
I think Jar Jar was too successful at being marketable comic relief. I'm fully camp sith JJB as written TPM. It would've been much more compelling story-wise, but we know Lucas is all about those merchandising rights, and I'd put real money on him seeing his popularity with the kids and chickening out for the bag.

It doesn't work as well on a galactic level because planets tend to be self sufficient on the millions to billions of years scale. But Star Wars always treated the scale as rather small, so it's not a really good critique anyway.
All you saying its based on this or that. Star Wars is a full length mass story board spanning an esoterical universe. It probably more then just based on this or that, who knows how much may be based on it. Although an esoterical Universum typically plays on all narratives while building some grander plot on the greater stage of reality and conceptual scenarios.
