Turns out it takes money or a big corporation to stick to your work when you're essentially a public figure representing a widely used platform. Can't make an anonymous alt for politics and step down from any positions of power without those.

"which spontaneous comment might generate a shitstorm"

Yeah, if it was an issue of them making off-color comments, it might be one thing. Using their position to amplify pro-genocide positions, and silence anti-genocide voices? Another thing entirely.

Putting up with some degree of eccentricity and problematic behavior is legitimately something you have to deal with if something isn't being run by committee (which has its own set of issues). But the core issue with the Lemmy devs is that they're fascists who seek to amplify fascist talking points, not that they're 'untrained' in PR. Fuck them.

Don’t forget to add the context. That comment was written to defend Rimu being shit.

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I'm avoiding linking as to not brigade, but it was a reply to a comment that also mentioned "the politics of Lemmy devs". Irrespective of whether any of it was also to defend Rimu, Nutomic cannot speak for anyone but themselves. As a side note, the accusation against Rimu by the OP there turned out to be most likely false because it lacked the full context.

[-] Loco_Mex@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

It didn’t turn out to “most likely be false”, I know the context better most other people and know it is valid.

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

The screenshot relating to Mia was undoubtedly out of context and visibly cropped. Going by the wording of her post and lack of evidence in it, she merely assumed Rimu's decision not to include that instance as a suggestion was based on her instance being "pro-trans" and leftist. You're being very vague, however.

[-] Loco_Mex@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It 100% was not out of context or cropped.

Here I just took these screenshots of the before and after for you.

Rimu never stated his reasons, he said it was “obvious” and left it at that until after the post was made when he said it was because she had chosen her side or whatever edgy wording it was.

Mia was being largely sarcastic and making light of Rimu’s lack of explanation by stating it must be because of the instances stance that he censored the instance.

Like I said I know what has happened better than most other people and am deeply familiar with the situation. If you would like me to clear up any other misconceptions please ask.

It 100% was not out of context or cropped.

The framing of the YPTB post, as also understood by Diva and by ZombiFrancis, is that Rimu brought up pronouns to show he's not a transphobe just out of the blue in response to a suggestion related to ableism, then immediately kicked Mia. They say nothing about Mia's prior post accusing Rimu of "shadowbanning" because "pro-trans" and "left leaning anarchist" with zero evidence, making the framing very manipulative. I also see no evidence of her being kicked immediately after that message. I'm not familiar with that mobile app, but the "kicked" notification appears to be sticky even if you scroll up, so in theory you could be looking at an exchange from a week prior but still seeing the notifications at the bottom. Your screenshot not showing the "kicked" event right below Mia's message seems to confirm this.

The cropping is very obvious as well. The bottom corners aren't round like in the rest of the messages, there's an "arrow down" button indicating it's not the end of the log, and there are parts of letters inside her message that are visible, highlighted by my red arrow here:

Edit: Corrected a URL.

Edit 2: Also, it's clearly an unmarked composite image made up of at least two parts stitched together. Here on the right you can see a cropped part of the black arrow button, while the top of the URL is also cropped, making the h letter look like an n, etc. .

It is not. The beauty of it is, that the project is open source, so others can fork it or maybe just add features they want. Since it is decentralized, it is also easy to not go to ml or other instances.

[-] Klear@piefed.world 11 points 4 days ago

Which is why there are constant attacks on the developer of PieFed.

[-] Eldritch@piefed.world 7 points 3 days ago

To be fair Rimu needs to step back from posting a bit. Or have a separate unassociated account to post personally from. It's just generally a good thing to do professionally.

To be fair Rimu needs to step back from posting a bit.

Why? The first report of power abuse and transphobia I discovered appears to be highly misleading. He was also not wrong about the AI use by dbzer0. And his list of banned users contains some names already known to the active users here, so it's plausible that the rest of the users are problematic as well. For example, I didn't know anything about Diva until just this week, but apparently she's a mod of Hexbear's Slop, which in itself is a massive red flag, considering the community is Hexbear's main source of harassment, at least from my personal experience of being targeted by them twice.

Edit: Included a quote.

[-] Eldritch@piefed.world 1 points 3 days ago

The point is, unfortunately the truth doesn't matter. It's generally a good idea to separate personal and professional. The Lemmy developers should have done it, and rightfully get called out for it as well. Them being salty taking advantage of someone else over it was inevitable. ML like hypocrisy like ducks like water.

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I'm 100% with you on the need to separate personal and professional, which is also what I do outside Lemmy. I don't even touch politics in some of those spaces. We may have the most informed positions that even make sense to the majority, but those discussions always lead to division, which is not needed in communities based around specific subjects or interests.

[-] Eldritch@piefed.world 0 points 3 days ago

Yeah. I didn't take sides on any of this because Rimu and others kind of put themselves in it. I understand the actions Rimu took afterwards even if I disagree with them. Even if I think a lot of the drama against him was astroturfed. It was all very human and predictable. Any of us are capable of it and likely have been. It's the sort of thing that teaches you to separate private and professional.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago

Aah, the old Kremlin playbook. Mix 50% truth with 50% lies.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Common sense usually applies when posting. If one doesn’t have common sense…then they’re likely a special developer 😂

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.

Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.

Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
