Vampire the Masquerade CRPG. If it delivers a narrative heavy VtM CRPG is exactly my type of shit. Completely new studio though (they did boardgames before)

Disco Elysium did actual damage to the gaming industry, look at it.

I think this format is great for VTM

[-] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 12 points 18 hours ago

I've taken to calling this micro-genre of CRPGs "Disco Elysium em' ups".

That game itself was, in my head, "planescape tormenting it up".

I still consider Planescape the superior game in terms of narrative depth / how much it makes you feel, but not by much.

or you can do both at the same time and be Esoteric Ebb

This looks like stuff I might really like, thank you !

If you're into (really) good writing and you haven't tried it yet, give Sunless Skies a go (it's a lot more well-rounded than its predecessor - Sunless Sea - and in the same awesome Fallen London universe).

[-] joaomarrom@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

oh hell yeah, I love the Fallen London universe! I've played a lot of Sunless Sea, but I think for some reason I skipped Sunless Skies, might give it a go

[-] AltMaarri@hexbear.net 4 points 14 hours ago

The writing was awesome in Sea of course but the gameplay itself lacked IMO; it felt very grindy. Skies fixes that completely for me, and it's also beautiful visually, it's a pleasure to wander in the world with your locomotive.

The same team - Failbetter - is also currently developing a new game in a new universe. The game looks like a combination of Stardew Valley and their particular brand of high-quality writing, which sounds incredible on paper: Mandrake. No release date yet.

The dialog portraits are a really stark example of the disparity between the depictions of men and women in popular media. Regardless, it looks like a neat game.

A CRPG from a RPG game? I can't believe it, they finally did that.

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 5 points 20 hours ago

there's also a hunter game too. crazy

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 7 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

The hunter one is an extraction shooter or I'm crazy?

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 6 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

no it seems to be BL1 with investigations

the more actiony game seems to be the top down werewolf one (not the first person werewolf one from a while back)

I want to make a World of Darkness module called "Jokers: What if Clowns Committed Crimes?" where everyone is a clown who commits crimes.

[-] batsforpeace@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago

definitely interested

[-] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 6 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

i did NOT see a sabbat CRPG coming. holy shit

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 5 points 19 hours ago

Yeah this looks great, but i am mostly pumped for El Paso, Elsewhere 2. I have mentioned this game numerous times here, and now that Lakeith Stanfield is producing/starring/directing the adaptation AND there's a sequel, ya'll better get on it.

[-] tocopherol@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

That looks sick, thanks for mentioning it again because I've never heard of it. I played a ton of each Max Payne, some games have tried to do it but haven't felt right to me. Anyone remember The Specialists? Max Payne/Matrix inspired multiplayer Half-Life mod, I wasted many days on it long ago.

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 4 points 18 hours ago

I always wanted to play that! Computer couldn't handle it at the time

[-] tocopherol@hexbear.net 3 points 17 hours ago

Dang that's too bad, it was an impressive mod, one map in particular based on the office building in the matrix with destructible pillars and everything was really well done. I have the memory of it seared into my brain haha. I was surprised to learn just now there are two servers still running it, unfortunately it looks like there have been no players for the last 28 days at least.
