What an interesting piece. It's nestled right in the uncanny valley. I want to see this as a relaxing, lazy summer day, but there's a general sense of unease, a sense of impending dread.

Makes me think of a community trying to enjoy themselves under threat of impending nuclear strike, or some situation akin to Vivarium.

Why does this feel so suspenseful

The angles and the dim shading in the background.

The creepy woman in the window.

Those kids are like 8 ft tall. They're touching the bottom of the pool and halfway out of the water right next to the 5 ft sign.

The pool floor is sloped, it is shallow and drops down towards the diving board.

This painting is absolutely mesmerizing. It’s very unusual and dynamic. Just looked up the artist, he’s fire

It's very subtle.

  • The houses are all set on a grid, as you would expect in a planned suburb. But this one building is at a 45-degree angle.
  • The sunlight drops off and the mood gets dark as you look toward the big city in the distance.
  • There are roiling clouds over the city, and plumes of industrial fumes spewing out of a factory.

Getting vibes of "The Swimmer" movie: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swimmer_(1968_film)

Something is off, and it's making me uneasy

This convinced me I don't need to actually master perspective to be a decent artist lol

But at night, it's a different world.
