Calling this one person's deportation to El Salvador a mistake implicitly suggests that all of the other people deported to El Salvador concentration camps were both on purpose, justified, and of course good actually.

This will be used when citizens will begin to be deported as well. The idea of a specific person sent there unjustly, implying that everyone else sent there is fine and they deserve it.

This is ignoring that Garcia wasn't sent there mistakenly anyway. It's all on purpose, or at best, neutral - if he was identified by the algorithm, then he deserved it. (Maybe that's the scariest outcome, actually).

NYT is even worse, look at this fucking garbage:

The case has supercharged a partisan battle over immigration. Democrats argue that the Trump administration defied the law in deporting and then refusing to return Mr. Abrego Garcia, who entered the United States illegally but was later granted “withholding of removal” status in 2019. Mr. Trump and other Republicans accuse Democrats of catering to a dangerous criminal who has no right to be in the United States.

They're fucking both-sidesing FASCISM

Especially because they’ve provided DICK evidence as to him being a gang member (not to mention Bukele’s absurd conflation of gang member with terrorist)

When I first heard that CECOT stood for "Terrorism Confinement Center", I had a real "WHAT YEAR IS IT" moment. This conflation of everything with terrorism was old hat twenty years ago.

Yeah I think Bukele has gone 2.0 with the terrorist designation, using it as carte Blanche to lock up anyone with tats, but it was a bit crazy to hear in the White House again

Terrorist and gangster have always been meaningless terms used to justify state persecution.

It's meaninglessness backed up by meaninglessness, just procedural bullshit to obfuscate them doing fascism

that's as deranged and dishonest coverage as they've ever done as far as i'm concerned.

The "he's no angel" brigade is out in full force today because someone found a court order his then-girlfriend now-wife filed over a domestic violence accusation. The more honest ones include a statement from the wife herself explaining what happened and how they worked through it and then pointing out that that isn't something that's grounds for deportation to a concentration camp but ran the article with the inflammatory headline anyway.

WHO GIVES A FUCK not to you but generally, this is so obvious and infuriating. Using the murdered woman's mother as a prop to deflect from you deporting peopl to a concentration camp

[-] vegeta1@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

The population justifying an ongoing genocide can be guaranteed to justify this

I think it's because the government admitted that this was a mistake. Deporting someone when the government deporting him says it's a mistake is egregious.

this is basically what's happening, none of the other innocents have had any sort of attention from any courts or anything but their families and the fascist stormtroopers that took him away. their has been coverage about up to 90% of the people taken having never committed any crime at all, but this particular guy is the face because a court actually admitted they shouldn't have bagged him, as you said. so that means there continues to be judicial process to report on as relates to Garcia where everyone else there is just sort of...

[-] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah it's the difference between a rigged court finding you guilty and imprisoning you even if you are innocent versus the court finding you innocent and putting you in jail anyway.

El Salvador rejected the request to meet with him?

yeah the guy's dead and probably never even made it to el salvador

I'm convinced Abrego Garcia is no longer alive
