"agentic" is bad. you don't want an AI with power over your stuff

fair point.

every nation should still do everything it can to cut emissions

[-] BloodMuffin@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

i get it. even if your nation meets a net-zero goal, most other nations will not, and the warming will continue.

preparing for the likely outcome seems like a reasonable action

it seems crazy that the UK is only now bringing in air conditioners. I think of them as generally warmer than Canada, but I guess they rarely get hot?

I've been in -60°c in the northern Canadian prairies, and +40°c in southern prairies. that really is wild.

but I use heliboard because it's open source.

what happened with them?

these new cultures are very different from the current predominant culture. the original Western Europeans that migrated had differences, but they're much more similar than north American and eastern cultures.

I don't believe the same will happen in this case, unless the government makes a move to spread people out. Singapore does this, not allowing any culture to take over a neighborhood. Opinions vary in its efficacy/morality, but I agree with it.

we can't be multicultural to the point of chosen segregation.

we need to keep everybody living in a big mix, all races/cultures in all neighborhoods. allowing cultures to dominate different areas is dangerous, it can really breed an "us vs them" attitude.

watching short-form videos and generative AI use have been shown to be bad for your brain. this doesn't mean you can just federally ban kids from the internet, that obviously doesn't work.

parents are ultimately in charge of raising kids, not the government.

the government could help by limiting tech companies, not users

Microsoft introduces copilot surveillance, I switch to Linux.

Google says all apps must go through our store, I switch to GrapheneOS

Gov't says no encryption.. Maybe I switch to burner phones, maybe I'll just use a mesh network, who knows?

I'll figure it out, but I'm slowly getting pushed more and more off-grid, trying to protect my privacy.
