Don’t widen it, add more public transit. You’re not going to need wider roads (like the fucking 101 needs to be any wider) if you give people accessible non-car options. And widening the road is a money pit anyway, it doesn’t solve traffic. “Just keep adding lanes” is magical thinking.

Only if you use a — instead of --, if they know what they’re talking about anyway.

My phone autocorrects them to — so that’s fun, lol.

Tips from the US southwest for anyone not used to the heat, if you’d like them:

  • Drink a stupid amount of water and eat salty stuff, as long as you don’t have a kidney condition
  • If it’s a dry heat (<50% humidity) you can rapidly cool yourself with a wet washcloth or spray bottle and a fan. You’ll have to keep wetting it as it evaporates, but it works
  • If it’s not a dry heat or you’re too hot for the washcloth thing, squeeze a cold pack under your arms or between your legs, the blood flow there will help you drop heat faster
  • If you’re so hot that’s not helping, take a cool shower
  • At night when it cools down, turn your AC as low as it will go/as low as finances allow. Every object in your house can ‘hold on’ to the cold and help cool your house during the day, the same way a full fridge maintains temperature better than an empty one
  • Go to public places with AC if there are any near you (libraries and malls usually have AC here)
  • Being unable to cool down no matter what you do is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY and you should treat it that way! Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are serious and have lifelong consequences

If you already know all this and are still suffering, I feel you. Our turn is coming 😩

Jesus, it must have been a severe hit if the bird shit itself. This being on the side of a building and not a window is really curious, though! Usually you only see this on reflective surfaces that the bird thinks is open sky. I wonder if a predator was chasing it, for it to collide so strongly with the wall.

Edit: fuck, I’m dumb, there is a window there, it’s just facing a wall. Reminder that bird window stickers exist!

You can’t teach kids mnemonics about straight sex anymore, because of woke.

The important thing to remember with trans kids is that there isn’t a ‘do nothing’ option if they want HRT. ‘Nothing’ is actually ‘force them to undergo puberty for the wrong gender,’ which is traumatic and has effects as permanent as taking HRT.

Going through puberty with HRT as a trans person isn’t any more inappropriate than going through natal puberty is for cis kids. Natal puberty is having permanent, unpredictable effects on their bodies as well, except we just call that growing up. Trans teens also deserve to grow up like their peers, without spending most of their waking hours managing their dysphoria because some third party who’s never met them is uncomfortable.

I grew up in deep Republican country and he’s 100% right. These are the same people I saw telling other kids their age they were going to get them deported and that they’re not allowed to come to school. They’re the same people that were leaving KKK graffiti around town. Just absolutely fueled by hate handed down, generation to generation, from angry slavers.

If you mean this about any Christmas, seasonal, 4th of July, Halloween, Easter, etc events… sure. But taking out just the Pride event is targeted.

All the comments from all cross posts on a single page is great. You can also add your own user flair like you could on Reddit, which lemmy doesn’t support. I haven’t messed with it much yet, but the ability to make lists of communities into feeds also seems really useful.

Having that impulse to think that is good, stopping there isn’t.
