Agreed. We will go. But the effort in building a colony on another planet. When that planet is not habitable. Is equal to that of building habits in centrifugal space stations. Using astroidbelt resources. Minus 1/2 the planatry landing and lift of costs.

It gives us all the plan b advantages of civilizations outside of one planet. At much lower costs.

Many daft ideas existed in the 14 century.

Humanity grew out of most of their shit.

If we have done it for 100s of years before the discovery of reasoned science is your best argument. Give up.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yes gender is a made up concept.

But sex is also not binary.

So ideas like biologically male are just that. Ideas with no real scentific merit.

Biologically XY could be used. But without clear medical evidence. The BBC has zero idea if that applies. And people are known to be born female. To the po8nt of getting pregnant with xy chromosomes.

And while documented cases are rare. They are rare because it is rare that anyone is actually tested,. So how common is not really known.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 0 points 6 days ago

Yep. A desperate attempts to not take sides while ignoring actual science.

And with everything BBC not taking sides translates to supporting the arseholes.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 6 points 6 days ago

No just an exaggerated tittle.

The article makes it clear. The experiment just suggest free will is more mentally taxing and calculated then random will.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 18 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

What a crap title.

Never seen a folk living near to any fossil fuel power plants who are unemployed.

Yeah sounds just as fucking ridiculous as a statement doesn't it.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 17 points 6 days ago

LOL yep pretty sure anyone with brains called that.

Now let's see what happens when NATO members try to go through. I expect him to make aoint of nations that refused to follow his offers.

And he will Def pick on all smaller non NATO members ships.

Hi. Just to make things clear. My reason for trying this is I am visually impaired.

I am writing some code to run on a pi zero 2. With a small 5 inch screen. IE the code interface is being designed to display very clear large buttons on a small screen.

To set up the OS build, I am trying to create a Qemu emulator on my large screened home desktop. So I can actually read code file system etc in large print. Once I have the OS set up and can install a lite image with very minimal xwindows / tkinter support. I can then use SsH etc to work on the GPIo stuff.

My issue is I have no experience with QEMU. I am having issues finding any online guide using recent versions of QemuEtc (preferably not video as watching code/CLI on YouTube is just undoable with vision issue's.)

If anyone can help with a guide on how to set up qemu_system_aarch64 for raspi2ap

IE what exactly I need to do to provide a -kernal and IMG etc to build a image. I'd be very grateful.

I'm posting here hoping you guys will have some experience. But please let me know if somewhere else would be better.

My desktop is running Debian bookworm with a back ports version of QEMU.

Yep well considering the US leadership is basically following 1930s Germany as a guide.

The exact reason the ICC was formed. Yeah objections are to be expected.

Ill sum this up. Research suggests Untrained dogs pulling causes more injuries than expected.

3/4 of injured are female and mostly over 65.

Opinion: 65+ year olds walking dogs are likely healthier than those not. So the 25m number may be rubbish.

But anyone reading this worried about a dog that pulls. The simple way to stop it.

Spend some time when every time the dog pulls harder than you like. Turn around and head the opposite way.

Dogs soon learn that pulling leads to failure to progress. Takes a few days for most dogs to learn. Then takes a rare reminder for the dog to remember you choose the direction, and it doesn't get to assume.

No need to tell the dog off or punish in any way. Just remind it when on the lead. Trying to direct you to move at its speed will always slow its progress.

Not entirely sure how much the register thinks it costs.

To design the first ever commercial man made star. But 220 m for such new science. Designed by researchers and specialists in a brand new field. Seems pretty bloody cheap to me.

As for building it being a pipe dream. We are far more prepared for it then we were the first fission power plants. Without some risk progress stops.

Will it cost more. Of course. But it is also the future of energy independence. And based on the first successful smaller design. So far from a pipe dream.

Again.

Every few years we hear a nations gov say this. Them m$ makes a deal to good to be true. And it all resets.

It's basically become an accounting trick for national govs.

[-] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 109 points 10 months ago

For private citizens yes.

If a nations official forces do it. It is an act of war.

My opinion:

Telegraph just dosent get it. No one pays tax on savings.

Yeah they get it they just intentionally mislead in the title. Tax is paid on the income savings earn. Not your savings.

But the Telegraph has no interest in arguing why those who can afford to save should get that extra income tax free. When they know full well it helps the economy more when it is spent or invested in other ways.

Putting money into savings only helps the bank. It is safer for the saver. But only to a very limited point the best investment for them.

This is why ISA have always had limited maximums and often encourage investment with some risk. Rather then supporting a tax free passive income alone.

Any form of passive income can only be beneficial to a society as a whole. If the recipient is encouraging growth in the form of income for the rest of society iE jobs/inferstructure/or risk based investments. (At least assuming we stick to fiat based currency. )

If a federated community like this already exists, please point me to it. I'd rather not divide the effort any more than necessary.

I think it is clear to anyone in the UK. The disabled community is now under attack.

This community is an attempt to help pull people together and consider ideas for support and to enhance our voice.

I like many others in our community over the last 14 years. Have enough mental health issues. That I'd be grateful for other mod volunteers who will share the time managing the group. In the hope, we can keep the workload of off to few people.

EDIT: Update and pic in comments:

Hey folks. I posted a while back asking for some advice on a future purchase.

To sum up. My brother and I are visually impaired and retired through that.

We have purchased a tiny 25ft narrowboat between us we use to travel around the UK.

And as our vision is getting worse (we will likely lose it eventually). I have some major electrical work planed this year to make thing easy for us to maintain.

So I was looking for advice on nylon printing. Yep it has to be nylon. Because some of this stuff needs to sit over the tiny hot engine plus alternator and survive diesel splashes amd bilge water etc while supporting electronics.

But some here also pointed out petg will work when. The heat is less high. So thanks.

This is just an update that i have just had the printer etc delivered.

I have a Neptune 4 pro with a tent and vent system to keep temprature and fumes safe stable.

I have a 70c filament dryer and plan to print Descicant hokder to be placed in spools with lids that hold hydrometers. This and some vacuum bags should allow storing the petg and nylon easyer. Then Microwaving the stuff when the meters are above 25%

Also those desicant holders look worth adapting somehow for the boat.

So now I need to replan my workshop to make setting all this up and using it easy vision wise. That will take a good few days.

This is basically a thank you for your help in the past and a "Hi ill be posting the mess I make learning how to get this workjng over the next few months. "

Thanks guys all the best

Sorry, this is not really 3d printing related. But as we have some cool folks here OS wise. I hopped you could help or point me the correct way.

As I have mentioned before my brother and I own a tiny narrow boat we are doing up.

The engine room is a nightmare. 4ft high with no top access. We are disabled (visual and flexibility basically old can't bend and classed as blind but some vision. ) So we have difficulty measuring exact space in a room we have to crawl through. Well it's very like Star Trek Jeffries tubes but greasy. ;)

We need to plan and mount electronics in there to support our use. (I sought advice on printing to help with this a while back and got fantastic help)

I am now starting to think having a 3d model of the engine room would make working out the layout much easier. So here is where advice is needed.

We are skint (poor for the US) so spending 1000s ain't an option. And likely not worth it anyway.

I have heard of android apps that use photographs. And that level of accuracy is likely fine for our planning needs.

But I'm a Linux 100% user. Since the late 90s So need some way to do this that can be done on Linux and fed into FreeCAD and or Blender.

Does anyone know much about tools in this space. And what the process for doing this with photographs is?

Industry groups are furious.

Likely the best sign it's the right thing to do.

Until the cost of using plastic matches the cost of removing it from our environment. No one is truly going to provide the support needed to bring the cost of safer replacements down to a point where industry will care.

Just like all damage to the environment. Until world governments are willing to agree to make those profiting pay all current and future costs of clean-up. Capitalism will never accept its role n the task.

Remove carrots and start some application of fucking big sticks.

Newbe advice (feddit.uk)

I have never used a 3d printer. But have done a little research.

Be great if someone could confirm my intention is sane.

I have loads of Linux experience so my plans relate to open source all the way.

First off I am brassic(poor). So looking cheap all the way. My brother and I have a tiny narrowboat we are refitting. And plan to use the printer for stuff within the boat.

Due to this printing PA6 to go in the bilge is important. (Diesel and water bad for most other plastics)

As we are both vision impaired and old. The idea is most of the electrical mountings etc will be self designed and painted to make future access quick and easy with our rapidly worsening vision.

So my plan. I am looking at a elegoo Neptune 4 pro.

Because it is cheap but great value. Uses kipper. And seems easy to modify as I grow in use. Also supports temps needed for PA6 etc.

But I will need an enclosure to work with PA 6 and a dryer.

Dryer is cheap not an issue.

But I'm thinking of a tent enclosure. Some good well insulated ones on amazon for £50 with hose to vent out smells.

Will one of these tents be suitable for keeping temperature stable while printing PA6. And can anyone offer other advice for cheap solutions to make this easy.

On a related novice front.

Gue to the vision. One of the projects is to print mounting boards for din rail fuses etc. The idea being to mix colours.

Ie flat surface faces from and back in white. The the inner support fram in a bright colour. This will mean holes to support thumb screws etc for easy low vision future maintainance. IE easy to find the pre set screw holes.

This plan means I can swap colours when printing layers so should be easy without over (for me) briced multi head printer.

But can anyone share experience with doing this with nylon. IE how dose delays in printing the layers while swapping filament t effect the linking of those layers.

As I say complete novice o the actual doing this so any advice will be helpful.

Hi. I've not really used Windows since the early 2000. Even then not much.

I have a single mini PC with windows on. And use it only for device firmware updates. As a ham radio nerd. You get many devices that can only be modified via windows.

Anyway it was set up with dual boot the normal way. Windows first as it came with it. Then make a real Linux partition to use the PC on my boat while travelling.

Now the issue is I am upgrading the Mini PC. Basically replacing memory and the tiny 128gb ssd. So need to install it all from scratch.

I have order a copy of windows 11 from ebay. (At a price I consider acceptable for the crap)

But its going to take several days to arrive. And I would like to be more efficient.

So I am hoping folks can advice me on the best way to set up the PC with Linux first then install Windows 11 later. Knowing windows has a habit of messing up grub etc.

Honestly Humanity has been pretty arrogant. Took 100s of years before we recognised birds use tools. Mainly because everytime it was seen. Some other excuse was seen for why the bird was sticking a stick into a tree. Science was so sure mankind was unique it was unwilling to see reality.

But honestly if you think that is bad. Do some research into why European explorers thought Europe represented the most advanced civilisation. African cities raised to the ground rather then face the idea they may have been their before us.

This is independent of other projects I have asked for help on. I'm just looking for anything done similar to my plan.

I am visually impaired. So tend to find most laptop pi projects way to small for common use. But also want an experimental bed for pie projects and experiments in genral.

So my idea is. I'll get a aluminium briefcase like case. Mount a 18 plus inch portable USB c powered display into the lid. It would also be nice if I could have my 15inch display fold out on a vesa mount. As an extra.

Inside the case id like to mount a large 18650 or similar lifepo4 batt. I'm thinking 4s 4p with a BMS so I can power usb 100w output with a 12v hub. This should allow out put to multiple monitors and a pie or 2.

I have a great small wireless keyboard and mouse. That could be popped in and out.

For the main board currently I'll use my waveshare CM4 poe board b with my 32/8 gb cm4.

But long term the itx cluster board looks good. When I have a bit more cash.

The main idea is it will allow me to connect multiple pcie riser cables to the boards via a 4 way wave share pcie switch to start with. Providing space to mount different boards and options as I change projects.

As folks may have seen from other projects. I move between home and my tiny narrowboat I share with my brother. So this will be more about being able to port multiple pie projects as much as being a usable PC type thing.

So if anyone has seen or worked on a project that may point to cool ways to mount this. I'd love to see them.

As I do not have a 3d printer. And cannot really argue the value for as rare as id use it. I am thinking alliminium plate cut and riveted to mount boards etc to the inside. But would love other ideas folks have seen or can come up with.

Sorry I am expecting no here. But cannot help but hope someone knows a way around the limitation.

I have a project where I plan to use an nvme on a waveshare mini b io board.

I am just now learning my way around CM4 pies. So purchased a few parts to experiment before fitting to manage stuff on my boat.

Unfortunately I did not know enough whan I got the dev cm4. Seeing as the cost difference between Emmc and lite was tiny. I decided there was little to lose with getting a Emmc one. Not knowing the EMMC uses the same pin address as the SD slot on io boards.

I now know this will mean the SD card port is not available. As I plan to use that to move software updates.

I was wondering if anyone knows a software way of enabling the internal sd port. IE basically disabling the EMMC.

If not ill just set up with a USB SD reader so all my cm4 can run identical. But if I can use the one on the board. It will be simpler. Maybe have some option to reboot the boat cm4 in either option with an emergency os on the emmc in the event of a fault.

Hi again folks.

I am looking at a small project. Once again for my boat.

As this one really has very little need to write. Just regular temperature logging with time from multiple sources.

I am considering setting the pie to store all temporary files in memory. Running the main os from the SD card. And just using an extra USB storage for logging temps etc.

This should hopefully leave the system needing very little maintainance. With just the USB flash drive prown to wearing out every couple of years.

I'd be greatfull for any links to folks who have set up similar systems.

Or other ideas on safe low maintainance ways of running a pi zero os.
