So many good episodes. This episodes, "Fifteen Million Merits" stands out. It's really good.

My favorite is "Shut Up and Dance".

Yes that is true but speaking on clinging on to an older phone, a headphone jack had a superior physical hold. My phone got saved a few times because my phone was connected to my wired headphones.

These dongles that came with phones were also usually very thin. It also sticks out and made of plastic. It just adds another weak point. They somehow added a weak point to a great piece of technology... On top of that phones no longer comes with the dongles.

Also dongles aren't sexy. It looks like a hack to make something work. Phone companies made headphones unsexy while making wireless earbuds really sexy.

Some people said that a headphone jack made dustproofing and waterproofing more difficult. Maybe but it had be done before. They also said it brings down the price of the phone to get rid of them. Weird considering the Google A series and Samsung mid range phones had it but their flagship phones didn't.

You made a lot of great points. Thank you for those.

I actually have bluetooth earbuds either came bundled, or I was gifted them. They have come a long way. Easier to connect. Better latency and better sound quality compared to the older version of bluetooth.

I like them, I am not a complete hater but I really am annoyed that this stuff will just turn to ewaste while my headphones have lasted me decades.

I'm just an old head yelling at the clouds.

No negatives listed on the Wiki page. Are there any? Does potting increase the likely hood of overheating?

I wanted a dumb tv. I was so sick of looking, I just got a 27" gaming monitor with 2k resolution for $150.

You can also get a 32" 4K monitor for like $500 but I didn't really need that.

My main concern is that, because the focus is primarily on making money, some young people might mistake entertainment for truth.

This affects everyone. Look at Fox News, who every time they get sued, they call themselves an entertainment network rather than a news network. Then you have Infowars and even less political entertainment like the Joe Rogan podcast.

My main fear of running it on my home server is they will block my IP address and my entire household can't use Google products anymore.

MacBooks are great. You can still run Linux on it if you still want to use the hardware.

Or you can try OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

What is OpenCore?

I just looked at how big LibreOffice Writer is, 210 MB as a portable app... Wow...

AbiWord Portable is probably the smallest and even that is 15 MB installed...

Is there anyway to search all Lemmy instances through Google or DuckDuckGo like site:reddit.com?

What they mean is that I’m not senile, or hysterical, or a rube. But these stereotypes are actually false. Younger adults — Gen Z, millennials, and Gen X — are 34 percent more likely to report losing money to fraud compared with those over 60, according to a recent report from the Federal Trade Commission. Another study found that well-educated people or those with good jobs were just as vulnerable to scams as everyone else.

Well Charlotte, you can tell yourself whatever you'd like to make yourself feel better but that's not the complete story.

The median individual reported fraud loss by people 18-59 was $500 in 2021. ...older adults were less likely to report losing money to fraud... The median reported loss was $800 for people 70-79, and a whopping $1,500 for those 80 and over.

Also younger people are more likely to get scammed where credit card protection are more likely to happen like buying goods online with a credit card.

And both old and young are no where near the $50,000 you lost.

I don't have my adblocker on and I get the "Your YouTube history is off" message. I cleared my cookies specifically for YouTube and Google. I still get that message.

When I go to Private mode in Firefox, the message disappears. Same thing happens when I change my User Agent in Developer Mode and changing device size.

Makes me wonder how they are specifying my non private tabs...
