dayum,
two keyboards with failing keys.
the usb i was planning to use for the ventoy free install died.
kde on my current setup keeps crashing.
constant software issues at work.

did IBM curse me for daring to stray of the path of the hat?

anyway, using a directly flashed stick instead of ventoy resolved my issue.

[-] Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 months ago

yes, thats why i always was confused when i heared people online talk about pc load letter.

i kinda assumed it was just an odd way to refer to paper that some manufacturers used

[-] Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 months ago

yeah, i changed that.

i only discovered that setting after a few months,
but now it has been on for years.

i can tell the diffrence if i actively look out for ghosting on my mouse coursor.

but unless i actively look out for it,
i dont notice it

if you know how they work llms are obviously not general ai.

but people are really bad at understanding how technology works especially with intangible stuff like computer programs.

scifi has covered ai for years, and now there is software that can mostly convincingly generate sentences.

people that understand both, see the very different approaches.

but people that don't only see the almost convincing results.

this stuff really pisses me off,
i remember recently watching a video about tekken8.

the devs aparently made an announcement that boils down to "we need to monetize the shit out of this game now to make our monney back"
and the streamer just went "yeah thats reasonable"

they have the sales figures for tekken 7, and tekken 7 was an online game, so they know their active userbase.
(and they also now charge 70 bucks)

so they have at least a vague idea of how much monney they'll make.

how can you screw up your budget that bad unless you senslessly dump money at your release.

yeah cutting edge graphics are neat,
but thats incredibly expensive.
and imo not that nececary for a great experience.

maybe a game that needs to nickle and dime its playerbase shouldnt be made in the first place?

what does half stable mean?
stable os with fresh applications?

if thats what you are looking for,
maybe debian with flatpacks for fresher softwares?

or if you also dont like flatpack, maybe
debian with nix

nice icon pack, whats it called?

[-] Kerb@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

i avoided flatpacks before.
but now that i tried out silverblue and had to rely heavily on them,
i have to admit that flatpacks are not nearly as bad as i thought.

the only issues i encountered are with steam (might not start propperly on first launch)
and with ides(terminal starts inside the sandbox)

other than that it works great.

imo mastadon wont suddenly become "state-run media" just because Goverment instances exist.

there are .gov email adresses already, and emails are pretty far from state-run.

since there is (afaik) no verification on mastadon, ill assume that theyll use the goverment instances to prove that @official@goverment is legit.
