Every day, capitalism finds new and horrible ways to ruin public services.

I wouldn't be surprised if the venn diagram of Tesla owner and adulterer was a circle. Also, just tell your partner you want to fuck other people. Don't tell reddit.

I know one thing is for sure:

Nothing will fundamentally change.

Why do you think they're gonna vote for Trump? Clearly he is choosing not to vote for a presidential candidate who supports genocide.

They're taking characterization from everybody and giving Aang a vision to move the plot along? Way to throw shade at the series, ya fucking hack.

"We're gonna improve the writing by flattening the characters and using a cliched plot device!"

Anyway, I don't feel excited for a remake of the show in any form. It didn't need an adaptation. Heck, it doesn't even need an expansion or a sequel.

It just feels like they're smoothing out the edges to make atla an extended universe to fit into Paramount's collection of franchises.

I'm glad people of color are getting work and visibility though.

Also why would you draw comparisons to Game of Thrones, an adaptation infamous for the showrunners ruining it by deviating from the source material?

Upgrading the child grinder from diesel to electric would be better for the environment and reduce noise. You do care about the environment don't you?

You know, I'd hoped generations after mine would get some reprieve from the bullshit of things like stranger danger, but the last few years have been anything but kind.

I mean a lot of young people spent time that they should have enjoyed in college/high school isolated at home as the people in power let the adults in their lives get sick and die for the sake of the economy. They had to go from living in fear of reactionary violence to witnessing institutional violence on screens.

It's not a comparison, but when I think about the 2008 financial crisis and Obama's presidential win giving me hope (sigh), younger generations didn't even have the luxury of a charismatic politician trying to inspire hope. It was two openly monstrous candidates talking down to Gen Z with no meaningful promises to prove life.

It's a fucking tragedy that we live in 2023, where there are enough houses for everyone, medical advancements that can sustain good-morning, and the internet, which in better hands, would allow for genuine connection.

Instead, rent costs so much that you can't take a sick day, getting sick can bankrupt you, and every bit of media and knowledge is behind a paywall or cluttered with ads.

But I try to think of what a better world would look like. It's all right there with the proper application of political will.

I know the facade is crumbling as the contradictions in capitalism become more apparent. Capitalists can't help themselves - they're still wringing out profit instead of granting the smallest of concessions. I'm still holding on and speaking out where I can because I want to outlive capitalism or at least the US.

If you have the time and resources to get good at a game like chess and believe the IQ bullshit in chess culture, it's not that hard to end up a reactionary.

That's okay. I won't remember to vote so it balances out.

Any lesser-evil libs want to tell me how it's more my fault than the DNC?

I mean anything like cursed or lucky objects, ghosts, etc?

Figured it's the spooky season and I don't know too many people irl to talk to about the supernatural without discovering q-level brainworms.

I'll comment in the thread with my answer.

For god's sake, the name alone sounds cool as hell. Like if I didn't know about them,

But in the US, they're treated like a joke. It's a punchline to drop out. I can't think of a story where somebody transferred from a community college, either to save money or use the time to think on a major.

Elitism in academia isn't a new thing with Ivy League nepo baby factories, or the STEM-Lord Cinematic Universe, but the disrespect for local schools is incredible.

Finishing community college and not going on to another university, for whatever reason, is great, and perfectly valid on its own. It's not a failure.

The way the US works is stacked against people going to college if they can't afford it. Like what sick shit is that? Education shouldn't be an investment opportunity. It's not supposed to be a business risk.

Community College isn't the solution, but it's a great starting place if you want to study for relatively cheap. The professors are usually pretty cool too. I was able to sit in on some extra classes when I had down time during the day. You can meet experts who love teaching so much they do it as a hobby.

You don't need to get a degree or have a track like you want to transfer. If you occasionally want to take a creative writing or fitness class, you can do that a lot cheaper than a writing workshop or personal training. It's also kinda nice for physical education if you don't want a lot of one-on-one attention.

Do you want to talk about movies for shits and giggles? There's a film as literature class you can take as an elective. You can watch two classic movies a week and debate/write about it.

Do you want to have a better understanding of mental health? Intro to Psychology can bring you up to date on trends in mental health.

If you know where to look, you can find comrades teaching sociology and political science. It's how I started reading about Engels.

Another cool thing is there are people of all ages there. You don't to make connections, obviously, but it feels nice when you know the population includes people who are working full time, or trying to figure things out in your community.

I know not every city has them, but I highly recommend checking them out.

This sports transphobia is mostly directed at trans girls/femme/women, right?

Are they doing this shit to AFAB people in men's sports?

Regardless all this discourse is wrapped up in misogyny too, implying that people AFAB are always going to be worse at sports.

And it doesn't take into account the general unfairness in sports. Some people are born into wealthy families who can afford to feed their kids, get them healthcare, and train them into sports.

It's all the talking points about affirmative action, just in a different font.

It's amazing how lacking an understanding of materialism fails to hold powerful people accountable. Surely no theorists warned about conflating reduced harm with harm-reduction.

Politicians can just not harm. Them reducing the harm they do isn't a good thing.

Anyway, that was a fun thread.

I don't wanna be the last one out here who knows how to do my job. And also, I want my dramatic exit to be more dramatic and if everybody else is quitting, my exit will feel less special.
