It’s easy to restrict access. It’s hard to restrict access while letting search engines index your content, driving traffic. Maybe a local paper simply gets most of its traffic from the first paragraph summary, or local subscribers, so they don’t need to let Google index the whole article.
Piwigo supports multiple users with different access rights, while Immich does not. Immich supports videos and Live Photos while Piwigo does not. Piwigo is a php application and can be installed by ftp on a basic web server and database (same requirements as Wordpress), while Immich requires a docker container. Both Piwigo and Immich have phone apps, but they differ in functionality. Piwigo is set up to upload individual photos while Immich is set up to backup ALL of your photos.

I agree with your criticisms of BitTorrent vs older P2P sharing. The closest successor I know of might be Tribler. I haven’t used it so I don’t know how the uploads are - and it still has many drawbacks/inefficiencies relating to hashing/duplication because it’s torrent-based. But it does contain search, and the ability to share without a website indexing it. It’s kind of like eMule: torrent/tor edition?
Drugs can be regulated by availability, not by illegality of ingestion. It can be illegal to sell.
If circumcision is legal, gender reassignment should be as well. Both are voluntary genital surgeries that are medically unnecessary. I don’t agree with it, but it’s none of my business. That’s a decision for kids and their parents and doctors to make.
Seatbelts can be a condition of using public roads, same as the minimum drinking age of 21 is actually a condition for federal highway funding. Same for vaccines, you don’t have to but you can’t go to public school, get into stadiums, or fly in airplanes. And they should expect quarantine procedures in hospitals and higher health insurance, Do I think people should be vaccinated, absolutely, but if they don’t want to they should just face whatever repercussions are reasonable - but it doesn’t need to be illegal to be unvaccinated.
Like I said, you can make it more complicated, but I don’t think it is. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean it’s unregulated. The government can impose regs to make us safer and slow us down from trying to hurt ourselves, but they have no business imposing laws that limit a basic and fundamental human right, to decide what to do to their own body.
For suicide I would imagine a compassionate therapy rehab-like system. You get checked in and go through a few weeks, they try psychedelics or whatever might help you, and if you still want to when it’s through you get a permit and a lethal injection. Better than having people leap off bridges because they’re out of options. Or overdose on painkillers and burden the healthcare system. Or traumatize their family. By the way the government spends a lot of money on suicide barrier rails on bridges that could be better spent on treatment facilities like the one I’m describing.

If your web browser can play it once, it can play it any number of times. Look into Widevine decryption. Basically you load the video in a special browser, save both the video and decryption keys, then decrypt the video file.
Beer is 95% water. If you’re counting on it for all your calories, you probably won’t want to drink any additional water or you lose your precious salt and vitamins.
As others have noted vitamin C and salt are probably the most immediate lacking nutrients. If you had a margarita once a week, I think that might be enough.
Numerous people have done a 40-day fast for lent, taking only beer. So that is easily doable. Multiple months is probably possible, but seasons/years maybe not.

I would pay if à la carte was remotely economical. For example a digital DRM movie rental should cost $1 in whatever resolution, on any device capable of playing it. A TV show should cost like $5 for a season or $0.5 per episode. To rent, not to own of course. I don’t care about ownership. With that model I would probably end up spending like $10-15/month on media, but I would feel better about it knowing the studio could pay more to those specific individuals who worked on the programs I am enjoying.
A subscription is a blank check to the studio to make whatever they think draws in subscribers, and to pay everyone involved as little as possible with no bonuses for blockbusters.
