I expect them to merge enthusiast into the pro segment: It doesn't make sense for them to have large RDNA cards because there's too few customers just as it doesn't make sense for them to make small CDNA cards but in the future there's only going to be UDNA and the high end of gaming and the low end of professional will overlap.

I very much doubt they're going to do compute-only cards as then you're losing sales to people wanting a (maybe overly beefy) CAD or Blender or whatever workstation, just to save on some DP connectors. Segmenting the market only makes sense when you're a (quasi-) monopolist and want to abuse that situation, that is, if you're nvidia.

Also things like selling their loss leaders below purchase price. The kicker is that they still lost the price war they started even though the German discounters kept things legal.

Then there was something about not wanting to publish their balance sheets as they're required to, shutting out the works council from stuff that the works council has a right to be involved in, the list is endless. Not only did they not have a German CEO to manage all that stuff they apparently didn't even have German lawyers.

They've definitely done that before, dunno if it was deliberately. They must have somewhat of an idea how long it takes for nocebo to kick in with the local village idiots, if it's short enough it could actually be a rather good idea to make waiting a bit a general policy. Tank some mild capital and opportunity cost to prevent having to battle in court and the town newspaper? Sounds like a win to me.

Oldie but goodie:

< > ! * ' ' #
^ " ` $ $ -
! * = @ $ _
% * < > ~ # 4
& [ ] . . /
| { , , SYSTEM HALTED

Waka waka bang splat tick tick hash,
Caret quote back-tick dollar dollar dash,
Bang splat equal at dollar under-score,
Percent splat waka waka tilde number four,
Ampersand bracket bracket dot dot slash,
Vertical-bar curly-bracket comma comma CRASH!

"waka" didn't gain popularity among people, at least not among any I ever heard about, usually it's angle bracket. I'm quite partial to 'tic' and 'tac'. The rest is standard or at least common, IMO | is pipe and {} braces. * is often called asterisk or star but splat is just better. And # is most definitely not "hashtag". Here's an overview of what's out in the wild.

There are lots of ways to improve LLMs that aren’t just increasing the parameter size

The paper isn't about parameter size but the need for exponentially more training data to get a mere linear increase in output performance.

The EU regulation doesn't say "USB-C", but "industry standard charging port" or something. What's industry standard is an executive decision of the EU commission, unless the USB-IF does something tremendously stupid the commission is just going to rubber-stamp any new standard they come up with.

The EU didn't event want to legislate in the first place and would've preferred for manufacturers to get together and just be sensible, but, well, Apple. The only hold-out.

This seems to be an implementation issue. In my neighbourhood discounter, in Germany, there's three self-checkouts and while they're a bit small they also don't do any of that weighing and whatnot bullshit: You scan your stuff, pay, done. The only thing they can't do is apply best-before rebates.

There's also always a manned till open (or at the very least, when things are slow, a worker hanging out in the vicinity). In practice if the queue is empty you go there, if you have lots of stuff you go there (because it's bound to be faster as you can focus on packing while things get scanned), otherwise you have the choice to use self-checkout. Never had to stand in line for self-checkout, before that happens they open another manned till. What the self-checkouts do is keep small purchases away from the manned tills when they're busy which is exactly what they're good for. I

How in the everloving fuck can a legal system be so absolutely broken as to not allow self defence.

Because Babylon 5 ended in 1998 and the reboot isn't even in production yet. Also MGM doesn't have the faintest idea what it's supposed to do with Stargate.

Propaganda has always been Israel’s superpower, and they’re doing a terrible job of it.

They're using the exact same kind of messaging they're using internally to their own right-wing and scared centre, "tough guys making hard decisions to keep you safe" kind of stuff. To people who went on school trips to Auschwitz with armed Israeli security -- not because visiting Poland wouldn't be safe, but out of a mixture of security theatre and propaganda. It just doesn't work if you aren't part of that particular information bubble. They seem to have forgotten that it doesn't even work on the Israeli left wing so why should it work on random people from elsewhere.

Also stunts like the yellow stars in the security council. Come the fuck on crocodile-teared self-victimisation can't possibly be more blatant, and it's fucking disgusting how they trivialise the Holocaust with that shit.

It is if it makes you miss a connecting train.

Also, those delays aren't the biggest problem, there's areas of the network which are completely messed up with hour-long delays and trains being skipped. That's a thing that's tolerable to commuters if it happens once a year, but not three days a week.

Not enough tracks, not enough cars, not enough reserve capacity, not enough fallbacks, and not even close to enough political will to fix the situation. Oh, yes, politicians agreed to introduce a swiss-style synchronised timetable by 2030, and that's definitely doable... but it has been postponed to 2070, or, in other words, never.

And then you hear bullshit like "we can't burden the coming generations with debt to build infrastructure" -- motherfucker how about not burdening future generations by having them drive horse buggies over gravel roads?

Vox really is the worst

Don't shoot the re-reporter, "Bibi bred Hamas" is Haaretz and Times of Israel stuff. So instead of the thinly veiled antisemitism accusation towards Vox you want to go to the root of things, you want to call Israeli journalists self-hating Jews. Gosh you folks can't even get your own narrative straight.
