Do you have any sources or docs on that? Sounds pretty backwards but also new to me. I pretty recently tried to download images (using Glide) without any special permissions and it failed since the app was missing the android.permission.INTERNET declaration (just like HeliBoard)

Yeah that's the case for all Android devices. That's because Android apps are delivered in a platform-independent way (.apk files) and to make apps faster, some code that would normally be run in a VM is compiled to native code to be faster. Updates may change the optimization process, that's why it's always done after one.

Also fuck most Android tablets being slow as hell.
