I’m pleasantly surprised at the moderation myself, reported a few racist and unfriendly comments and most of them were taken down, plus I even got a message from XHS thanking me for reporting comments lol

If you’re located anywhere outside China it just says the country you’re in, not the city, and even for Chinese people it only shows the city they’re in if they’re located in a major one like Beijing or Shanghai (for a lot of people it just shows the province.) Idk to me it’s not a big deal if Xiaohongshu knows I’m in the Great Satan.

Yeah lol I saw some people from the US and Canada trying to pass themselves off as Chinese and being racist. Actually ridiculous. Thankfully the comments I reported got taken down.

Just saw a post by an American asking to see photos of Chinese cities and Chinese ppl in the comments were sending photos. Super fun!

@Imsomking@hexbear.net has gotten a fundraiser set up!!! Before clicking off this post, please read it in its entirety.

  1. She is currently in a lot of danger. You may remember from this post that she was half outed as trans. People around her are suspicious and are looking through her phone. She is terrified of police involvement if they find evidence that she is trans. On top of this, Iraq is going to be bombed again soon, this month.

  2. We don't have a lot of time. Since Trudeau resigned, the new Canadian PM is likely to be Poilievre, who is running on an extremely anti-immigrant policy. She needs to be in Canada before the next election happens, which could be as early as late March. This means we need to raise as much money as we can ASAP.

  3. We're shooting to raise $15,000 by the end of January. She needs this money to make the flight and to pay living expenses once she reaches Canada. Please, please donate if you are at all able. If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser with people you know who can donate. Share it with your friends, family, on social media, on discord, anywhere.

  4. If you live in Canada, please reach out via DM. She will need additional support once she reaches Canada. We need a network of people to support her. Any help we can get, we need.

Thank you all for reading and for helping. This is incredibly urgent. We appreciate all of your support!!! 💚💚💚

So tired of concern-trollers saying shit like "oh the uncreative recipes are why people hate vegans" "people hate vegans because they're white single-issue activists" "people hate vegans because they're annoying" "people hate vegans because the food is bad" like 1. literally none of those things are even true and 2. even if they were it's not why people hate vegans.

also somewhat unrelated but i'm going to soapbox about substitutions: complaining about vegan substitutions is almost always anti-vegan unless it's a person having specific qualms with a specific thing. but there are people who will shit on substitutions as a whole concept and pretend they're so original and have the highest opinions of food ever created. like I'm sick and tired of non-vegans (and vegans too) complaining about tofu being used as a substitute in a lot of vegan dishes. just let people enjoy their goddamn food in peace.

Hello software-savvy Hexbears, I am a person who knows basically nothing about Linux and I’m looking to switch over. I have an M1 macbook (I know, very bourgeois) and I’m not looking to get new hardware. Which Linux distribution should I choose, and what’s the best way to migrate my data over without data loss?

I’m also looking to pirate games once I switch to Linux, so a distribution good for g@ming is preferred.

Thank you. I already pointed this out on another hexbear post about 4B, but this movement is explicitly extremely transmisogynistic and they are not trying to hide it. If we're trying to be a trans-friendly space this is not something we should be supporting.

This has got to be the clunkiest way they could have phrased that title lmao

Harvard’s Gaza encampment ends after administration agrees to meet

This is the Brown thing all over again isn't it? Disbanding an encampment over a vague promise to discuss the demands instead of actually fulfilling them? The organizers say that they are aware that this isn't a win for divestment but that it is a win for organizing and that they're going to continue the struggle "through other means"? I'm sure they mean what they say but this is just proving to colleges that vaguely promising "discussions" of divestment works to shut down encampments and I feel like other schools are going to start employing this tactic too now that Brown and Harvard have set an example.

[ID: two headshot portraits on a white background. The person on the top left is an east asian man with a round face, a small mustache, and strands of long black hair framing his face with the rest pulled back into a ponytail. The person on the bottom right is a south asian woman with a narrow face, high cheekbones, and dark hair in bangs. /end ID]

i did these without any underdrawing, hence why i called them "freehand". they're both my ocs.

Trying some new things with my digital art process. I'm not entirely happy with this piece but might as well share it anyways.

[ID: A surrealist black-and-white ink piece showing a variety of strange creatures in shifting concrete blocks. Eyeballs are prominent, with many eyeballs rolling around, piling on top of each other in giant eye sockets looking out open 'windows', zippers in the concrete opening to reveal eyeballs, and eye sockets melting on top of each other over the edges of surfaces. In the top left is a shattered window, with a sculpture of a man with tree branches growing out of his head and a stack of three faces looking out. Below them is a concrete line of many windows, with a hybrid dolphin, snake, and terrier animal leaning out of an open window. The window next to that one is shattered, with eyeballs melting out. The dolphin/snake/terrier has one trunk-like arm stuck in a shallow metal channel with water flowing down it. Below that is another window, where several large eyes are looking out as well as a moose with. many small eyes holding an umbrella in their mouth with an eyeball skewered on it. In the middle right of the picture is a protruding concrete block hanging by two chains from another block on top. A door in this block opens and a veiny worm with a large eyeball on the end of it looks to be slithering out. There are two smaller windows over top of this protruding concrete block, one of which is taped up and another of which shows a woman on the sill with the skin of half of her face lifted up to reveal the organs beneath. All of these eyeballs and creatures are staring at a small person standing in the bottom left, who is in turn looking up at them. /end ID]
