This is fantastic. Great news!

You will be really thankful for learning Linux in the future, the way big tech is going now.

Haha no problem. :) It's a great distro. And you know the old joke...

  • How do you know someone is using arch?
  • They will tell you.

:)

Yeah but its never enough money coming in. So your commercial free paid streaming will either get less and less quality content (happened with Netflix etc), or it will go up in price.

I have become a bit disillusioned with how capitalism works. Not that I have any better system. They all suck because people aspiring to be in power suck.

Everything from these big corps have no soul. Because we know it's just about exploiting users for money.

I want the old internet back so bad. Hopefully federation can fuel many new actually fun services that are not built to make money but to actually entertain and amuse people, or simply be useful.

I personally feel pleasure from doing good things in the world. But it seems to be a group of people who doesn't feel it's worth doing something for others unless there is money to be made from it.

Very nice tool, will use this for sure. I prefer command line also, so much faster.

Easy target since it's so big. I still think it's madness to have so many users on one instance. But I guess people need to learn...

[-] mrmanager@lemmy.today 4 points 1 year ago

Yup its configured on each instance in the admin settings.

An Sso account would mean one identity across all instances, which can be tracked and monitored.

Users using different account on different instances with different passwords are a lot more difficult to track.

Googles entire operation is about connecting users across different websites using identifiers and so on, because that's where the value is. All that data under one profile is highly valuable to them.

It's always like this by the way - users give up privacy for convenience or "safety".

Later, you add ads when it's too convenient to move away from the service.

I think we just have different experiences with downvotes. I see them being harmful, yes. Because they are used to disagree, not to flag incorrect content, in subreddits (communities) where opinions are discussed. In technical fact-based subreddits they may work fine, but in discussion-based ones, they are horrible and leads to one opinion at the top always.

Me too! After paying for three subscription services and not finding anything to watch after a while, and seeing services raise prices and even add ads, I decided enough was enough.

Piracy is really good these days. 4k movies. :)
