Then there's the ambulance chasers who amplify the fear factor up to eleven just so they can justify their retainers.

Finally, there's Microsoft who in my opinion shows the whole world, time and again, how not to do security whilst all the while preaching to its victims, uh, customers, what "best practice" looks like, whilst chanting"Do as I say, not as I do".

Security is about education above all else. The vast majority of breaches start by social engineering, getting a target to inadvertently install something or reveal something that gives an attacker a toehold into a system. It might be an unexpected PDF, a clicked link, a weak password, or personal information retrieved from someone who has no business storing your passport and driving licence on a system.

I had a Mac Mini as a media centre before I had an Apple TV.

Purposely bought a server model that fried both its drives, never to be seen again. It was not a happy experience, or one that I'd recommend.

The UI alone required both keyboard and mouse, you're forever dealing with on-screen alerts, none of the software is really intended for full screen use 100% if the time, etc.

On the plus side, you can have an on screen clock all the time if you want, something I've never achieved with the Apple TV.

Search is another issue, as is post deletion. Right now a post vanishes, but all the stuff hanging off it is still there. This makes for a complex user experience.

Finally, Lemmy appears to be run by developers who appear to be interested in their own issues and regularly appear to dismiss issues raised by users. This is not sustainable.

I consider myself a user of the fediverse before I'm a Lemmy or Mastodon user. We have a way to go before this settles down.

Content is licensed under specific conditions, resolution, audio tracks, closed captions, etc. Two organisations might have licensed the same title, but not the same conditions.
