Apple does have a very anti-cooperative business practices that which goes against the spirit of cooperation of communism. Would a company like Apple event exist in a post-capitalist world?

By “a company like Apple”, I mean a company that it is extremely secretive, doesnt open source anything and doesnt cooperate with any other companies, and tries to make everything proprietary and have closed ecosystems.

Is because communists seek consensus, not just majority.

Voting in liberalism (the ideology of capitalism) is like everything else you experience in capitalism; it's alienating and alienated.

We'll focus on the alienated part. The liberal vote goes like this: here's the question, you can answer yes or no, knock yourself out.

They don't care about anything else. They don't care if you're educated or not about the question, or the reasons you might have to be voting one way or the other. All they care about is the box checked on the ballot, and then whichever option gets the most votes, even if it's one single extra vote, wins.

The communist vote goes like that: here's the question, why do you want to vote yes or no?

We build consensus. Build is the keyword here: consensus is not reached by random luck or letting enough time pass, it's a conscious effort that you have to make.

We educate people about the question and their choices, we try to understand why they lean one way or the other, and then we talk with them to give them all the facts they need to make an informed decision.

It's something we naturally started doing on ProleWiki, we try to reach a consensus for most decisions (the most common ones being account requests). If someone votes no, we want to know their arguments for it, and that's why most account requests end up with a pure 9-0 result or similar; we talk and convince people to reach one decision or the other. We motivate our own decisions as well; whether you vote yes or no, you're encouraged to explain why -- votes are not yet anonymous in our case.

But there is debate happening, which is healthy and helps reach a better solution.

It's also what Cuba did for their new constitution. The way these votes happen in liberal democracies is, again, they give you the question, they give you the changes that would happen, and they ask you yes or no and that's it. The way Cuba did it was to first talk with communities and their citizens, before any vote even took place. Then they refined a proposal based on these discussions, submit drafts for auditing by the population, and then finally the vote happened.

Many ancient and indigenous societies were able to function very efficiently with a communist government, I don't see why Laos, Cuba, Vietnam, and Venezuela's attempts have been so terrible in the way that they are completely authoritarian. The Iroquois Nations's democratic government was basically the foundation of the US's democratic government, and they were also a communist society. So I see many examples of primitive communism being able to function. I even found out about an Indian state called Perula that is also a successful comminist state. I don't see why we can't make communism and socialism work out in countries like Laos, Cuba, Vietnam, and Venezuela. Forgive me if anything I said is wrong.

Worker force required to change the country for the better?

Not sure anything interesting will come out of it, but the announcement post got a bit of traction here, so I thought of alerting those with bad memory like me.

For those that are unaware, ethnic violence has affected the state of Manipur in India for about the past three months.

Manipur has been in the grip of ethnic violence resulting in the deaths of over 150 persons, displacement of tens of thousands of people and horrific crimes against women.

It has been taking place between the majority Meitei community and the minority Kuki community.

In an insane twist, the prime minister until very recently had been completely mum about these grotesque riots. Why? Because the state is under BJP rule and the chief minister, Biren Singh, has himself stoked this violence by making statements like this:

Just a month before the May incidents, he had told the RSS paper, Organiser, that, “The indigenous people of the state have been reduced to the status of second class citizens after the foreigner Kuki immigrants took control of the social, political and economic affairs”. Here he echoes a longstanding propaganda of the RSS about illegal immigrants flooding Assam and the North East.

What forced Modi to speak publicly about this issue was something terrible that happened to two Kuki women.

True to his form, after expressing token sorrow, he instantly trivialised the incident and diverted attention away from it to attack his opposition parties instead:

But he immediately sought to divert and trivialise the issue by talking about how such crimes against women must be firmly put down in states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Manipur. This was the cue for BJP leaders and the party’s IT cell to take up the refrain of how women are being abused and assaulted in states run by the opposition parties like Rajasthan, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.

Our community is rather small and it cannot completely express the views of the millions of Marxist-Leninists worldwide. There has to be something a lot more than just this community.

So what are the largest Marxist-Leninist internet forums, besides this one? I know for sure that they are either going to be non-English speaking or consist of non-native English speakers from non-English speaking countries, for the simple reason that Marxism-Leninism is much more popular outside of the English-speaking world, especially in China.

I would prefer to see some English-speaking communities as that is really the only language I speak, but then again, I can just use imperfect machine translation to translate other languages. I believe some other comrades would benefit from seeing these communities as well!

Marxists.org is notoriously an eyesore. Someone on GitHub by the name of ArkansasWorker made a custom CSS for the website that makes it more readable. I forked their project for some minor changes based on personal preferences (for example I prefer serif font on light mode and I remember there being problems customising the font in the settings).

First you will need to install Stylus for Firefox. There must be a Chrome counterpart extension as well but I am not sure.

After that click on ONLY ONE of the links below based on whether you the original or my fork:

This should open the file in Stylus automatically and you can install with the install button on the left hand side.

In this article, through the critique of Cohen's work, Sayers describes in a very clear fashion the differences between mechanical materialism and dialectical materialism, and the differences between analytical and dialectical thinking in general. I think it's a great resource for people wanting to learn or better understand dialectics and dialectical materialism.

We see a lot of account requests from people who are just yet dipping their toes in marxism and communism. We can't abandon new comrades to the flow of the current they are floating in, pulling them in all directions without a reason or goal in sight. They need a comprehensive, actual study plan.

I purposely limited myself to 6 books (honorable mentions would have been State and Revolution and the Manifesto) as this is like a crash course to get you to an adequate level. If you read say a chapter every night (and for principles of communism just do it in one go it's super short), you should finish everything in around a month.

This thread should also double as an ask your questions thread. But I feel there's also a whole thing around asking questions; people want to know about the war in Ukraine, about US imperialism, about what's happening in China or the DPRK... but while this is important, it's parallel to your marxist studies. You must, alongside current events, learn about the fundamentals as well. Sometimes it seems less important because there's major stuff happening and "theory" is seen as some dead wood, something you can pick up but was written a century ago and so has little relevance to our world today, but it's the opposite. If you truly want to understand what's happening today, you have to understand not only what happened in the past that led to today, but also the theory that was written down in the past and is still applicable.

So anyway, feel free to ask for clarification on stuff you don't understand, not focusing solely on current events as I often see around the grad 🙆‍♀️

Being a graduate from 3 years of studying psych and with an active experience of mental illness, I can say that no amount of studying theory and doing therapy+ taking meds for years helped me realize the root of my problems and my worth as a human. more than Marxist analysis. I live to be a part of the revolution, and as long as psychotherapy reinforces the client to believe in themselves and to accept the realities of it is what it is, it will never achieve its job of liberating the person. There is a need for psychology to gain a Marxist perspective, more so from modern day leftists in the mental health field.

I know things were really bad in 1989, but what made it so bad that people in so many socialist countries just rose up and overthrew their own governments?

To be more specific, I'm looking for unbiased biographies of Mao, Lenin, and Stalin. By "unbiased", I mean not clearly riddled in western propaganda or authors who are apologists. Also, it would help if you can tell me where I can download them as ebooks.

The only thing I found for Mao was Mao: The Unknown Story by Chang, and the Private life of Chairman Mao by Zhisui. Both are full of blatant hatred and Western propaganda of Mao, so they are full of shit. I can't find anything else in english though, there's a chinese one but it's sponsored by the CPC and is too long, so again it isn't reliable. For Stalin, It's like everything about that man is Western Propaganda, I can't find any unbiased source. I know Stalin isn't some saint and killed lots of people, but it's like Westerners believe that's all he did even in his free time! I saw one book say he killed 1 million soviet citizens per year, wtf! There is zero acknowledgments at all to the successes from his rule. The closest I found was from a former Soviet Historian using released Soviet Archives. Apparently he did one on Lenin too, and seems unbiased enough. For Lenin it's the same problems w/ propaganda. Albeit, I can rely on his own texts as well to get a view on him.

GreetingsComrades, As stated in the title I don'twangt equal rights for everyone I want equality, I don't want straight and gay marriage I want marriage (rights oc), I don't want cis rights and trans rights I want human right, etc. Because the problem with rights is first the bourgeois can and will take them away if they want( see India end-to-end encryption, the dam situation) and second if there is a new emerging/organising group they don't have these rights they have to fight for them.
