Original Title: This affects most p2p infrastructure on the internet, Monero would still work, but very very little else. Language involved in numerous bills & proposals is extremely unpromising, Coincenter agrees that FOSS criminal indemnity is at stake.

Ugh reddit is just such an unhelpful difficult site to write anything on to compared to twitter, it ruined my formatting.

This post is about describing *all* of the p2p infrastructure used for DeFi on bitcoin and ethereum and siacoin to explain node network archtecture. I want you all to read and understand the network traffic involved and understand that no component of this is custodial, because that is what the DoJ is claiming about Tornado and Samura*, and that is what* the Treasury and IRS are claiming about Uniswap, the language in the two indictments, and the other two agency Proposals is clearly an attack on criminal indemnity for FOSS, they are using criminal enforcement as regulation, in the words of CoinCenter, to get what they want by vastly expanding the definition of server in federal court. This is outright perjury, and I want the monero community to understand the network traffic architecture involved in IPFS and layer 2 solutions on bitcoin in particular with regard to Samurai's coordination server, so you understand this is in fact perjury that is be planned by federal prosecutors.

The Whirlpool coordinator is a blinded server that critically can't know the contents of the massages it passes. Users collaboratively make self-transfers. Samourai never accepted nor transferred bitcoin & they aren't money transmitters, similar to SWIFT:

While SWIFT’s tools are often used to move substantial amounts of money in violation of sanctions, and while SWIFT voluntarily cooperates with ongoing investigations into the use of their messaging protocol for sanctions evasion,24 they are, nonetheless, at pains to stress that they are not an obligated entity under sanctions laws: Responsibility for ensuring that individual financial transactions comply with sanctions laws … rests with the financial institutions handling them, and their competent authorities. Swift is only a messaging service provider and has no involvement in or control over the underlying financial transactions that are mentioned by its financial institutional customers in their messages.25 SWIFT has, in fact, far more control over the messages that they relay than the Tornado Cash developers have over any Tornado Cash messages. Unlike the Tornado Cash protocol, SWIFT

The questions you've raised touch on some innovative ideas about how Layer 2 solutions on the Bitcoin network, such as Mercury or similar technologies, could potentially evolve to become more decentralized using technologies like Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) and InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). Let's address each concept step by step.

  1. Blind Signing Delegated to Client-Side Nodes ===============================================

Transferring the responsibility of blind signing to client-side nodes instead of a centralized backend server could increase decentralization. This would involve a shift from a single signing authority to a distributed network of nodes, each capable of performing signing operations. This setup could potentially enhance security and trustlessness by eliminating single points of failure. However, this approach would require robust mechanisms to ensure that these nodes operate reliably and securely without compromising the private keys used for signing.

[Cross posted to MoneroMarket]

Hey, everyone! So, I’m still getting Monero orders occasionally without working email addresses. To complete your order and ship your products, I need to communicate with you via working email.

It can be a throw-away, and if you would like, you can always send me your public key and I can do things encrypted. Additionally, I manually remove all information for Monero orders after 30 days.

So, to recap: When you place an order, I do NOT need an actual mailing address or phone number, but I DO need a working email address to communicate with you off-site (e.g., shipping address and payment QR/link). Send me your public key and we can communicate that way. All of my emails include my public key as an attachment for you to use.

Thanks again for all the support! Let’s continue to build the Monero community!

And, as a reminder, I only offer the discounts to Monero community members. Use “Monero10” for a 10% discount.

Thanks again!

https://christopherlawrence.us

Also, people tend to create a bunch of fake transactions when I post to Monero forums. Ladies and Gents, please do not do this, as it messes with the ordering system and may eventually cause me to pull acceptance of Monero if it gets really bad. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I’ll add a section at the top to explain Monero orders.

UPDATE: Monero section added. LMK if that is clear enough to understand. Thanks in advance!

This feels like a huge moment right now.

Also, what do you think about this guy’s take on where this is all going regarding Monero?

Is Monero a honeypot that will be the next target after Samourai Wallet?

It feels like the Totalitarian Globalist Dragon is making a significant MOVE right now. I think it’s important to keep your eyes peeled. 👀

I predict full CBDC implementation by 2025.

Hi Everyone,

Since our last update, I'm happy to report that our film, which features Monero in a few scenes, has had a lot of success and been recognized with multiple awards, including:

We're playing TONIGHT in Tuscon at the Arizona Film Festival, but I wanted to let everyone know about our upcoming Los Angeles Premiere.

The film is playing as part of Newfilmmakers LA next Saturday, May 4 in the 2:30pm block (Program #2 - Immigration).

(Copy of this GitHub issue, posted here on Reddit for added visibility. Don't worry if it sounds mostly Greek to you, main target audience is devs.)

The Short Version

The devs from the Seraphis wallet workgroup currently build a new wallet implementation for the Monero core software. It will supersede wallet2.h plus wallet2.cpp which won't be available anymore for programs like the Monero CLI wallet or the Monero RCP server, and neither for any third-party wallet apps like Cake Wallet, Monerujo and so on. The API for the new wallet will be wallet2_api.h plus a number of related header files from the /source/wallet/api folder of the Monero source code. All things that are now only in the wallet2.h "API" will be added to that, to cover 100% of the necessary functionality, and to make getting fully rid of wallet2.h possible in the first place.

The Long Version

Right now as I write this, in Spring 2024, it's not fully clear how the path of the Monero software into the future will look exactly. Most probably it will use FCMPs, but apart from that there are several possible directions to take. What is clear however is that the wallet implementation of the core Monero software, with its massive 15,000 lines of complex code in a single source file called wallet2.cpp, is definitely ill suited for larger modifications to accommodate transactions that work rather differently.

We, i.e. the group of Monero devs that are engaged in the Seraphis wallet workgroup, are convinced that the time has finally come to retire wallet2 and replace it with a full rewrite. Actually, work on this has started quite a while ago and will hopefully soon pick up speed considerably: We are already on the way.

One question left unanswered so far for quite a while already was this: How will the API of this new wallet look? Which C++ methods, structs, enums and so on will it offer, for wallet app writers to use?

Personally I once had a dream of a brand-new such wallet API, designed out on a green field, making things possible like keeping several wallets open at the same time seamlessly and syncing them in parallel, unify wallet API and RPC server API so that the only difference between the two would be that for the first you make direct C++ method calls and remote "calls" for the second, and maybe offering a clean superset API for multisig wallets instead of cramming them into a single API as well.

The progression of time and the realities of available dev capacity made this dream to be out of reach however. And hey, maybe such a drastic cut never was a really clever idea ...

Recently jberman made this proposal. In short: In addition to wallet2.h there is already a second API in the Monero codebase in the form of wallet2_api.h plus a number of related header files also in the /source/wallet/api folder. The GUI wallet and a number of third-party wallet apps mainly use this instead of wallet2.h. Our new wallet shall use this as its API.

This proposal was very well received; I am not aware of even a single person voicing clear disapproval, at least until now. We discussed the proposal in our group meeting on April 22, and we approved it. You find details in the meeting log.

We currently plan to start with making the API feature-complete, i.e. adding all things to wallet2_api.h that so far are only available by using the lower wallet2.h directly, and then probably also providing an implementation internally based on wallet2. This should allow wallet app writers, if they so wish of course, to soon start any necessary move to the new API while we rewrite the implementation that will finaly replace wallet2.cpp.

Things happen in the open. People who are interested in these developments are invited to join our Matrix room or the #no-wallet-left-behind IRC channel on Libera.chat. You find the announcements for the regular Monday group meetings here.

Now finally to the "probably" in the title: Can those people from that "wallet workgroup" really decide to throw wallet2 out of the Monero codebase and force everybody to adjust to that wallet2_api? As I personally see it, yes and no. No because they don't have formal authority for this; in fact, nobody has any such "formal authority" in a true open source project like Monero is one! Yes because if they implement a new wallet, and it comes out decent, the rest of the Monero dev community at large will probably follow along nevertheless.

Anyway, Monero development rises and falls with engagement. Make your voice heard if the things mentioned here are important to you.

"Monero Transaction Fees Warning

The Monero network is currently experiencing high transaction fees. If you send a small amount of cryptocurrency, most of it may be used up in fees. We recommend sending higher amounts of cryptocurrency or using another cryptocurrency until transaction fees lower to normal.

Are you sure you wish to proceed?"

And then when I proceed:

Credit Sale Amount + 10.00 Estimated Transaction Fee - 6.80 The transaction fee of 6.80 is just an estimate. The actual fee that will be charged is calculated upon confirmation of your payment by our processor. You may end up paying more in fees if your transaction takes too long to confirm and/or fees increase in that time.

Anyone have any idea WTF is going on??

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

Link to the CoinDesk article below, and apparently there is something called "TradeLayer" out there, and its founder cites Monero as an inherently private cryptocurrency, which is superior to attempting to mix non-private crypto such as Bitcoin.

Given the success of the previous MAAMs (see here), let's keep this rolling.

The principle is simple: ask anything you'd like to know about Monero, especially the dumb questions that you've been keeping for you every other days, may the community clarify it all!

Finally, credits to binaryFate for starting the concept!

Because XMR can be used as a unit of account on services like moneromarket.io, I'd like to propose to extend monero denominations page (getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/denominations.html) with symbols which would make accounting easier.

Plural of monero is moneroj, which makes sense to use ɱ as a currency symbol.

Moreover, xmrchain.net already adopted this writing system for transaction fees. fee/per_kB [µɱ]

It takes less space to write "1 µɱ" than "1 micronero" or "0.000001 XMR"

| Name | Base 10 | Amount | Symbol | |

|

|

|

| | piconero | 10-12 | 0.000000000001 | pɱ | | nanonero | 10-9 | 0.000000001 | nɱ | | micronero | 10-6 | 0.000001 | μɱ | | millinero | 10-3 | 0.001 | mɱ | | centinero | 10-2 | 0.01 | cɱ | | decinero | 10-1 | 0.1 | dɱ | | monero | 100 | 1 | ɱ | | decanero | 101 | 10 | daɱ | | hectonero | 102 | 100 | hɱ | | kilonero | 103 | 1,000 | kɱ | | meganero | 106 | 1,000,000 | Mɱ |

Some examples:

1 Wh of power 12 μɱ

Average rent in the US 12.4 ɱ

A pound of bread 16 mɱ

5 bedroom house in LA 16 kɱ

Hello!

Announcing sigmanero.org, a new sports betting exchange that uses Monero’s multisig wallets for each individual bet.

sigmanero.org

Users bet against other users not the against the house.

The multisig wallets are auto-generated in less than 1 minute in the browser of each user. No need for command line interface (CLIs).

The setup is as follows. User A places an offer for a bet in a particular event for example LA Lakers to win vs Boston Celtics. This offer will have the side (Lakers or Celtics to win), the amount in XMR and odds that user A would like to bet.

User B can see user A’s offer and accept the offer. At this point, a new 2/3 multisig wallet will be created between A, B and Sigmanero.

This new multisig will have to be funded before the start of the event by both A and B. Both A and B will also need to save their new multisig seed keys separately.

When the winner is known, the winning side can reclaim funds using his/her seed key to sign the transfer out of the multisig wallet. Important to stress that if they don’t save their seed keys, then they cannot reclaim funds, and there will be nothing Sigmanero can do about it.

At no point in time will Sigmanero have controls of funds or will any of the user seed keys be shared with Sigmanero. To move funds, Sigmanero will always require one extra signature from one of the users. If both users decide to move funds, they can do it without Sigmanero.

More details under

If A chooses so it can make its bet offer private and share the bet with a known person. This will guarantee that A knows who is the counterparty B and both users can confirm that they will share the same multisig main address and the 2/3 key set up.

In cases where A funds the multisig wallet before the start of the event but B does not, then A will simply be refunded. Both A's key together with Sigmanero's key are sufficient for the refund to happen. Both users will have visibility of funds going into the wallet on the website.

Betting for each event opens 6 hours before scheduled time and closes 15 min before event start. A key constraint is that A and B need to place the bet at the same time for the multisig to be generated. This means that when A places a new bet "offer" it needs to wait with the browser open until someone matches the offer from the opposite side. Users that simply "accept" bets have a better experience and can simply browse around the best offer and accept it when it suits them. The advantage for the offering side of the bet is that it can set the amount and betting odds to their liking. Anyone can "offer" and "accept" bets. Sigmanero acts as an intermediary.

Winning users can claim their bet funds right after the end of the event. This means that XMR is only present in the multisig wallet for a short amount of time.

The use of multisig wallets should stop concerns about rug-pulls, exit-scams, or wallets becoming compromised by attackers.

At this moment we will have available the main European soccer leagues such as English Premier League and main US sports such as NBA and NHL. Let us know if you would like to see other options!

Betting starts 6 hours before event

In the near future we also plan to add political events such as elections which we hope will be interesting for prediction market followers.

The use of multisigs greatly reduces the need of a trusted centralised party because users are in control of funds. But we also understand that multisigs are relatively uncommon, although we hope that a project like Sigmanero can show that is possible and practical for users and business to adopt multisigs. No excuses after this example!

Let us know what you think!

Sigmanero team

I love this book. Please read if you haven’t yet. This is possibly the most important book not only on Bitcoin, but Cryptocurrency as a whole.

The only thing that I disagree with the author about is…why BCH and not XMR as the solution? Monero to me is the real deal.

Why go for optional privacy instead of pure privacy? Privacy and fungibility are inherent factors of Sound Money.

To me, the truest Cryptocurrency to date is Monero (XMR).

But this also begs the question of will Monero also eventually become captured?

This book was so well-written and such a scathing indictment of BTC that it leaves you wondering if ANY Cryptocurrency can live up to the ethos of being true P2P digital cash?
