I'm not sure if I should keep the "secure, private, untraceable" but I plan to simply print this and tape it places.

Whats your favorite?

Largely people in this space are only for FIAT gains, less so for the cypherpunk vision which unfortunately has been twisted by some or forgotten altogether.

And even in that group of true cypherpunks, there are some that turned it into a religion and are blinded as well.

How would you know you're one of them, blinded disciples ?

For one, you must forget about FIAT evaluation which unfortunately due to all the trading speculators and price manipulations has lost it's use as a true value representation.

Secondly, forget about the name of the project - name is just a name, don't fall in love as love will blind you. Remember Bitmonero ? show must go on!

And last but not least, forget about all the "regulations", we are cypherPUNKS not cypherPU**IES.

Now your eyes are open, what you are left is the tech, the only thing that matters.

I believe many hardcore holders of X cryptocurrency projects would trade it all to Y cryptocurrency if not the blind affection and/or current artificially inflated FIAT evaluation and false promises.

I'm in since 2016 and I have never seen any project to be as close to true cypherpunk vision as Monero. It's pure, there's no lying to it, no endless promises - it works today.

That's all my friends, just my point of view on the scene.

Monero - like cash but better.

Monero - Swiss bank account in your pocket.

Monero - the most private store of wealth.

Monero - everyday digital cash.

Monero - what Bitcoin noobs think they bought.

TLDR

Here's a proof-of-concept wallet for Camo Nano. It's a command-line interface, and targeted towards more advanced users, though anyone can use it.

Use at your own risk, not professionally audited, you know the drill. For troubleshooting, when in doubt, refresh.

Context

3 months ago, I published a demo of what would become Camo Nano. Since then, I've reworked the entire prototype wallet, and now I think it's ready for a public release! The wallet is free and open source software.

Like most cryptocurrencies, Nano offers little in the way of privacy. With a normal Nano account, everyone can see its entire transaction history, including its current and past balances, who it has received coins from, and who it has sent coins to.

Camo accounts do not have a publically visible transaction history, allowing users to make private payments to each other. When using a camo account, no one except for you can know how many coins you've received, or from whom.

Camo Nano is based off of Monero's stealth addresses. For those wondering, the technical details of how Camo Nano works are similar to BIP 47. Documentation for Camo Nano can be found here. A Rust library for Camo Nano can be found here.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

What's Next?

I intend for Camo Nano to be integrated into an easy-to-use and hopefully mainstream wallet, so that the system can be used by everyone.

Unfortunately, I'm not a webdev, and am terrible at designing UIs. So within the next week or so, I will be announcing a 200 - 300 Nano bounty for anyone willing to do this. If you're interested, or would like to contribute to increasing the bounty, stay tuned.

I just realized that I've been part of this community for more than a year now. I wanted to take some time to say to everyone that it's okay to disagree.

We're one of the most transparent and passionate cryptocurrency communities out there, with people from all corners of the internet.

I've seen numerous communities, across Reddit and other platforms, I've been part of (or not) turning into madness because of political discussions and false debates. Yet, you guys are able to share your opinions without hating each other like the rest of the world do. We can be proud of this strength of tolerance. This free thinking is also what drive our passion and determination to see Monero succeed.

So again, It is okay to disagree. No need for hate, no need for cancel, just accept others opinions, share yours and think the way you want to.

Since Binance abandoned Monero, Kucoin has become the main source of XMR coins ... but it has not fulfilled its role enough, it is constantly closing withdrawals.

Right now I received an email about the withdrawals:

Dear KuCoin User, The xmr network now supports XMR withdrawals.

Such emails have been here several times in the last few days. Withdrawals lasted until the coins ran out. However, according to official announcements, it is still closed. The official opening still hasn't happened. Missing announcement.

2024-Mar-08

KuCoin Has Temporary Closed the Deposit and Withdrawal Services of Monero

2024-Mar-17

It is currently unavailable due to temporary maintenance. You may also refer to this official notice.

Apparently there is a total mess or lack of real coins ... so no reason to use them.

The service sounds interesting and has decent reviews. Both purchases went well, though I made a mistake on the first one and it was fixed in no time.

Pretty sweet service, thumbs up so far.

Tuta.com, a privacy oriented email service provider, recently released TutaCrypt, a protocol to exchange messages using quantum-safe encryption.

I wonder if it would be useful to have similar encryption built into monero protocol.

You can read the specification here:

Roman Sterlingov was recently convicted for running a Bitcoin mixer.

This is a very dangerous legal precedent. Because the only hard evidence for him to potentially serve 20 years in prison is that his KYC Bitcoin went through many hops and wallets, before being used later to supposedly buy a domain name. This domain was then used for a Bitcoin privacy service, that had not yet even been declared illegal during its initial operation. That’s why it operated on both the clearweb and Tor.

Even if we ignore the fact that Bitcoin privacy “mixing” was not considered illegal in 2011, this has a bigger implication for the entire Bitcoin ecosystem. This court case means that anyone is responsible for the future actions of anyone you pay, because if those funds turn out to go to anything illegal, you’re automatically on the hook. And people wonder why we like Monero?!

Further this is dangerous because the Chainalysis software used to prove his guilt is proprietary. This means there no longer is a burden of proof for the government, if the software has an unknown method, which was not even properly explained to the jury. The jury trusted them at their word. [1]

Even worse, Chainalysis sells services to the US government. So having zero feedback mechanism on their blackbox unknown conviction tool is a likely conflict of interest. As CoinDesk points out, quote,

“The value of Chainalysis’ government business stretches into the tens of millions, according to government documents.” [2]

And to make the conflict of interest even worse, there’s a rotating door of employment with US government, with employees going back and forth, and vica-versa. As TFTC points out quote,

“The original prosecutor on the case has since joined Chainalysis and serves as their General Counsel and has been replaced by the FBI agent who initiated the investigation against Roman.” [3]

So the prosecutor joins the for-profit witness, with an unknown methodology?! In fact, the Chainalysis proprietary black box software was so flawed, that a conflicting firm CipherTrace was going to testify against this software, but suddenly backed out due to pressure from its parent company Mastercard. [4] To quote CoinDesk,

“Competitor analysis firm CipherTrace, submitted a 41-page expert report claiming Chainalysis used “unverifiable” and “incomplete” techniques to incorrectly link Sterlingov to Bitcoin Fog. Mastercard, which bought CipherTrace in 2021, later spiked the report.

“We lost our tracing expert right before the trial,” Ekeland said (Sterlingov’s lawyer), adding “we never got a really clear reason why.” [4]

If you value your freedom, please discuss and link your friends to this issue. Consider subscribing via Session messenger, as we have Monero payments for a social media bot on top of Session, to encourage XMR adoption. DM the bot by messaging the user "Simple" with no quotes.

I quite often see people within our circles write, often in a disheartened way, that the masses don't appreciate or understand the need for privacy.

But is this really true? I came across this article a few days ago that I thought I would share with you:

The article is about a 2021 survey from the European Central Bank:

https://www.ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/other/Eurosystem_report_on_the_public_consultation_on_a_digital_euro~539fa8cd8d.en.pdf

In the survey over 8,000 people were asked what feature they prioritize the most in a digital currency. What was their answer? Interestingly, it wasn't speed, low fees, or even security. The number one answer was privacy.

"What the respondents want most from a digital euro is privacy (43%)..."

So perhaps we shouldn't underestimate the large majority of people, at least the ones who live within the European union.

Of course, it's also great news for those of us who want to promote Monero. It means that there is a real demand for a digital currency that is private.
