MoneroRun - traditional independent annual public audit of XMR reserves

Withdraw your XMR coins before April 18th and keep them in your own wallet at least for the whole day! (UTC time) ... and this way celebrate Monero's 10th birthday 🎂🥳🍾!

Tiny ants can do big things together, so it's up to you too! ... because exchanges (or other services) will not do this voluntarily on their own.

Please promote this event and don't forget to share your experience (of our joint audit) here in Monero's reddit on April 18th.

These exchanges have already failed this audit: Kucoin, HTX, Poloniex, Guardarian, Binance, WazirX, ... (Binance promised to keep withdrawals open until May 20, but instead it is closed.)

These exchanges have failed this public audit in the past (now completely delisted or destroyed): NiceX, OKX, Waves, Bittrex ...

There have been estimates of how big the attack is, but I think lately it's about 100k extra transactions per day.

Many people are calling it an attack but it could also be a number of other things going on, ranging from research to someone not knowing what they're doing or trying to churn or incorrectly implementing a churn script without realising that it's costing them dearly etc etc

What are the favourite theories as to what the cause/motivation could be?

Could it be a benevolent volunteer adding lots of transactions to the block chain to make it harder to trace monero?

Or, if it is an attack, could it be mitigated by asking volunteers to add more transactions to the block chain to make the attacker's transactions account for less of the over all traffic?

Shortly after the price began to rise for 2 years straight (x500) without any larger interruptions.

This could as well be a test run or a signal to show confidence in Monero's staying abilities.

The amount of passive-aggressive posts here and on r/xmrTrader is staggering.

As someone who holds a significant amount in Monero, I urge you to please stop the coping. A whiny atmosphere only drives potential newcomers away from this subreddit, leaving them feeling disheartened and discomforted, much like encountering a homeless person outside your local grocery store.

  1. Constantly bashing other coins, especially more successful ones like BTC, won't make Monero surge in value/appealing. The big green candle on BTC speaks for itself. Hoping for some "victory in the future," like a significant portion of BTC being tainted and becomes not usable, will or will not happen. Meanwhile, we live in a present.
  2. Monero isn't a "stable coin". If it doesn't follow the bullrun as it should be it doesn't mean it won't follow a bear market. Don't lie to yourself, Binance delisting and fake Finnish FUD with precise timings (just before bullrun) worked perfectly. The Feds are not dumb and are aware of what they are implementing.
  3. Endlessly discussing and circlejerking on conspiracy theories about CEXs manipulating Monero's price doesn't help. Most people aren't interested in the reasons or conspiracy theories behind price drops; they simply see a 50% dump on an XMR/BTC chart and close the tab.

Finally, the selling point of XMR as a "privacy blockchain" is not effective. BTC and ETH are impractical for payments due to high fees, and few people are concerned about it. If privacy in payments is a concern, why not simply top up a virtual credit VISA card with USDT or other crypto and spend as usual? I do it, and it works seamlessly.

So, how do we make Monero better?

Handling payments is challenging; it's the last-mile problem in finances. The focus should shift from privacy payments/purchases (where no crypto will substitute VISA/MC cards in the foreseeable future) to anonymous transfers. This is where Monero truly shines.

Usability in everyday transactions. Highlight its potential for anonymous transfers, from paying a small debt to your friend to avoiding taxes or bank fees for international transfers.

Make owning Monero more appealing, it should be considered cool in society.

Showcase (in non-cringe manner) its privacy features to friends and colleagues, explaining the advantages of using a privacy-focused blockchain over transparent like Bitcoin – make BTC looking like a grandpa comapred to Monero. We all know, once people around experience the benefits of privacy, they'll understand its value and may prefer Monero over transparent alternatives.

cryptotalks.ai

AI is extremely powerful. Therefore it's important that there is free and private access to it for everyone so we can all participate in its benefits. I built this website to hopefully bring the power of AI to people who can't use the traditional financial system, or prefer to maintain their privacy. As far as I know, CryptoTalks is the only place you can use XMR to pay for AI services. We host many of the most popular chatbots (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, etc) as well as several many open source models (Llama 2, Hermes 2, Yi, etc). More coming soon!

This is a very early prototype, but I welcome any feedback! Hope someone finds this useful.

"We hope Haveno will be ready to be deployed by the end of 2022."

You don't need a degree in marketing to see how bad this looks. Just change it into "when it's ready" or take it down altogether already. It's hurts reputation and credibility, if anything.

Basically lets assume a hypothetical scenario in where I fall into coma for several years. Will I be able to access my coins, assuming obviously that I still have seed/privKey, or possible massive future updates we are not yet aware off will prevent me from doing so?cheers!

Binance promised to keep XMR withdrawals open until May 20th, but it's otherwise: closed.

Ever since Binance stopped trading Monero and some people moved to Kucoin - since then it has had constant problems with XMR withdrawals and now it has officially closed: XMR closed

Poloniex and HTX (Huobi) have only sporadically opened XMR withdrawals in recent months. It is currently closed.

And did all OKX customers get their XMR coins, or did they end up the same as with Waves, Newton, Bittrex, SCRT, ... ?

Monero Spam Recap (lemmit.online)

The numbero of Monero transactions increased noticeably beginning from March 04.

This is not legit transaction volume, but most likely caused by a spam attack. The reasons behind this attack are not clear.

The average block size has surged from ~100kB up to more than 300kB.

Monero daily transaction

This attack has filled blocks, causing significant delays in transactions, reaching a mempool size of up to 20 MB. Ultimately, thanks to the Monero block size adjustment, block size limit increased, allowing more transactions to fit in the block.

The attack seems to have reduced now.

PS: If you find any mistake or have any extra information, don't hesistate to reply.

That is, this attack is aimed at de-anonymizing future transactions by stuffing the blockchain with tx known to the attacker. Thus reduce the effectiveness of ring signatures.

Flood attack tx are already 80% of the mempool. If this is allowed to go on for an extended period of time, most members of the future ring signatures could be from attacker controlled outputs.

By now you should get what I’m talking about: we need to dilute attackers tx with our own.

However, one question remains. How do we know when the attacker has stopped so we can stop our own flood.
