How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.
  • LocalMonero (localmonero[dot]co): peer-to-peer exchange. They have pretty much everything as a payment method and they support hundreds of fiat options.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, the community has been recommending two services in particular, ChangeNOW and SideShift.AI. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a suf...

Help the network by running a node or mining xmr!

Hey,

I wrote a small script to calculate average fee of the transactions in the mempool. Which is then multiplied by the attacking tx's (estimated about 50k of spam tx a day).

Tell me if I'm wrong with the math, but my python scripts results are: Average Fee: 41143406.40293638 (piconeros XMR), Number of Transactions in mempool: 9808

Fee for 50K Tx a day: 2.057170320146819 XMR

Here is the script:

import requests

url = ''

response = requests.get(url)
attacking\_tx = 50000

if response.status\_code == 200:
 data = response.json()

if 'data' in data and 'txs' in data['data']: txs = data['data']['txs'] num_tx = len(txs) # Number of transactions

# Calculate the total fee of all transactions
total_fee = sum(tx['tx_fee'] for tx in txs)

# Calculate the average transaction fee if there are any transactions
if num_tx > 0:
    avg_fee = total_fee / num_tx
else:
    avg_fee = 0

print(f"Average Fee: {avg_fee}, Number of Transactions in mempool: {num_tx}")

fee_for_spam = avg_fee * attacking_tx
monero = fee_for_spam / 1e12 # piconeros to moneros

print(f"Fee for {attacking_tx / 1000}K Tx a day: {monero}")

else: print("No transactions found.")

else:
 print(f"Failed to fetch data, status code: {response.status\_code}")

EDIT: Edited script to have easily changable amount of spam tx

Right now there is a 20 block backlog of transactions in Monero's mempool/txpool. When you submit a transaction it will take about 40 minutes for it to be confirmed on the blockchain by a miner.

Unfortunately, the GUI wallet's automatic fee increase feature is not working correctly. You as the user need to manually increase the fee when you send a transaction. If you set the fee to "Normal (x1 fee)" instead of "Automatic" (which chooses the "Slow (x0.2 fee)" option now), your transaction should confirm in as little as two minutes.

Questions:

Are there are privacy downsides to manually setting the fee higher?

There may be a small decrease in privacy if you set your fee manually to the "Normal" level. Anyone can view the fee of a transaction in plaintext on the blockchain. The privacy impact depends on how many other users set their fee higher. If many other users do it, your transaction will not seem unusual. The standard Monero wallets, including the GUI, have only four fee tier options. The limited number of tiers avoids having many small "anonymity puddles" that can reduce privacy.

Which wallet software is affected?

The "official" GUI and CLI wallets are not applying the automatic fee increases. Other wallet programs that are based on the official wallets probably have the same issue. At least Feather wallet is affected, but fees cannot be increased manually in Feather.

When will the automatic fee problem be fixed?

Monero protocol developers are working on a fix. It may be released in the next version of the GUI/CLI wallets in the next few weeks.

What if I am receiving, not sending, the transaction?

The sender has to set the fee properly. If they didn't, you just have to wait.

Does Monero have BTC's replace-by-fee (RBF) option?

No. RBF makes zero-confirmation transactions unreliable. You cannot increase the fee after you send the Monero transaction. You have to wait for the transaction to confirm on the blockchain.

How can I see the transaction backlog?

  • A simple view of the number of transactions in the txpool is here:
  • An animated visualization is here:
  • You can type the print_pool_stats command in your monerod node console to get a summary of the backlog.

I was just looking up some data (as I do once in awhile) and just noticed that Monero has not only broken its transactions count ATH, but reached a new high 50% above the previous! I'm surprised I didn't come across any posts talking about this before.

What is going on? What are your theories about this? How is it possible that Monero's price is lagging so much with these metrics?

Hi everyone,

In the past, I often used Binance to SWAP XMR into other coins because there was no fee

But currently Binance no longer supports XMR, so I often use exchange services.

However, it always costs money and takes more time than before

So, does anyone know of any other crypto exchanges that accept XMR and support Swap?

Thanks and Best Regards

So with mass adoption of bitcoin through the ETFs. surely all of the American holders can see regulation incoming. I personally don’t hold any Monero. But I would like to see what convictions you have as holders to stick to your guns, knowing that the SEC is going to crack down in the US.

Hello everyone,

I am a big fan of Monero because of its privacy. I have had Monero for several years.

Now a question. Back then I could exchange Monero on an exchange without KYC. Now all exchanges want KYC. Now I only know Mexc. They advertise without verification. But I was wrong. I had to go through the KYC process when I withdrew. I'm a big fan of privacy and Monero stands for freedom. But unfortunately it's no longer possible.

Does anyone have any good alternatives?

The Monero core wallet and related software has always been super reliable and given me no problems, except recently I've had TWO catastrophic wallet corruptions due to the monero-gui.exe crashing on my windows machine. Luckily, I keep backups of the wallet frequently and can recover from this, but I didn't always play things this safe. Has anyone else experienced an up-tick in crashes and/or wallet corruptions lately?
