Privacy in Focus at ETH Denver w/ Luke Parker,SirJamz & Seth Estrada (MT #301)

TODAY'S 🎙SHOW: Douglas Tuman interviews SirJamz, Luke Parker, and Seth Estrada while they are attending the ETH Denver conference. SirJamz had spent all week onboarding eth Denver attendees to Monero and linked up with Luke and Seth for a privacy related chat.

They discuss the latest developments in the Monero ecosystem and ultimately what Monero’s privacy and efficiency roadmap is, atomic swaps, Serai DEX, full membership proof update, some respected privacy coin projects, and even touch upon the hypothetical concept of private smart contracts on Monero.

They also talk about the importance of privacy and censorship-resistance in blockchains and analyze the tradeoffs with different privacy solutions.

Bisq vs localmonero (lemmit.online)

I am in the uk and was wondering which is the best way to buy monero? Or if there are any other easier methods. I understand that localmonero has high prices compared to bisq but i'm wary of downloading a program on my pc, especially if it is known to be used to bypass UK law on monero. For those who don't know, monero was basically outlawed in the uk recently. Does anyone know which of these is the best? Or if there is an easier/cheaper way of getting monero in the uk? thanks in advance homies

edit: after further reading it appears that monero was only banned on kraken in the uk. i think i can do it on binance but my bank refuses to allow me to deposit into binance (even after calling them). and kinguin giftcards are surely faaaarrrr more expensive vs even localmonero. (kinguin makes you pay almost 20% more than what the currency is actually worth and you have to buy usdt cards and then convert which costs even more in fees)

I'll start off by saying that I need some help, and I'm sorry if this is a little long. I want to include as many details as possible because I think there is an easy answer. I had XMR on xeggex on 7th February 2024 that I transferred to Feather Wallet. At that time, Feather Wallet was synchronizing and on its previous version. Under the receive tab on Feather Wallet, I copied an address to use for my receiving address from xeggex. I completed the txn on xeggex. I updated Feather Wallet to the current version. After noticing the txn was confirmed on Blockchain, I checked my now updated Feather Wallet 2.6.3, which was now synchronized.

The XMR did not arrive in the balance, nor do I see this receiving address. I started to do a little searching. I went to Feather Wallet, to Tools, to Address Checker, and input address 8... to receive the message “This address does not belong to this wallet.” I thought this was interesting, so I tried another tool. I went to Feather Wallet, to Tools, to Import transaction, and input txn id 9... to receive the message “This transaction does not belong to the wallet.” I'm starting to worry, but I wanted to search more.

I went to Blockchair website and searched for transaction 9.... I wanted to prove the transaction, so I checked Decode outputs and entered the address 8... and the view key from Feather Wallet 1.... This gave me new information and hope. Since my view key decodes the outputs of the transaction, I'm thinking that I did, in fact, send the XMR to my address.

The trouble I'm having now is how to find the address and balance. I tried restoring the Feather Wallet with the same key using the block height 3078750, but that didn't work. I think someone here can help me. I look forward to the comments.

I read more and more post of people saying not to hold Monero but to used it. I get why people say, “use it” but if the price does not appreciate, what incentive do miners have to keep working?

At I noticed there are many txs that are unconfirmed for a long time (50+ minutes). This is something I never noticed before. Why are miners not including them into the block? Is the network functioning correctly? Thanks.

Peershop.app allows you to shop on Amazon with a discount and/or earn monero by completing orders. We also have a dispute process that uses zero-knowledge proofs to ensure both parties do their part. This cuts down on scams and frauds.

How It Works

  1. A shopper creates a gift registry on Amazon.
  2. The shopper selects a discount and orders on a Peer Shop.
  3. An earner selects the order and places it on Amazon.
  4. The shopper gets their item, and the funds are released to the shopper.

If there are any disputes, both sides use tls-notaryexetension to create privacy-preserving zk proofs to support their claims. No other platform offers this level of transparency and security**.** You can read more about our dispute process here.

Amazon's gift registry also hides the shopper's address from the earner, preserving part of your privacy. If you prefer anonymity, our other service offers anonymous deliveries.

We only offer Amazon deliveries, but we plan to support other platforms such as Target, Walmart, Domino's, etc. Hopefully, one day, if you want to order a pizza, you can place an order on Peer Shop and have an earner arrange delivery for you, all p2p with XMR.

If that dream sounds like something you would like, please check us out! Our code is open-source, and any questions or feedback is welcome! The better systems we can build to support and trust each other, the less we rely on centralized and undemocratic systems.

Thanks for all the support, and we hope you have a good weekend 😎

I recently had an experience where some of my acquaintances thought I was a "hacker" engaging in illegal activities when they saw me playing with my Flipper Zero.

They didn't confront me but was talking amongst themselves about how dangerous the device was, how it's banned in some countries, etc. based on the videos they had seen on IG & TikTok.

I had purchased my Flipper Zero so I could combine and replace a bunch of key fobs & remotes that I had to carry around for my daily activities:

  • a key fob to my office building
  • three separate gate openers for my and my friends' apartment complexes (that I frequently visit)
  • a key fob to enter my apartment building

Later when I found out what they said, I explained to them that it's a remote device. I was wondering how others have explained their device to other people.

About 10 months ago, Athanor Labs released ETH-XMR atomic swaps on Ethereum mainnet ( ). However, it has very little liquidity due to poor UX (CLI only) and high fees on Ethereum mainnet making small swaps prohibitively expensive. Two things are needed to improve the situation:

  1. Integration of a GUI interface into a popular GUI wallet, such as Monero Core or Cake Wallet
  2. Deployment to a Ethereum L2 with low fees and high liquidity. Currently, Arbitrum has the most liquidity by far (with Optimism as a distant second) and cheap fees. Those fees about to become an order of magnitude cheaper after the Dencun hard fork on March 13th this year.

The second item is pretty straight forward to do since the major Ethereum L2s all EVM compatible. Has their been any traction on development and integration of a GUI interface into a Monero GUI wallet for the ETH-XMR atomic swaps to help improve the UX and liquidity?

Trading Monero (XMR) and other digital assets is like walking through a minefield. You start with the premise that almost all digital assets do NOT have a valid use case, sufficient adoption or decentralization. Let’s say you get past that massive hurdle and find one you think checks all 3 of those boxes (XMR being the best example). Then you have to actually have to figure out how to purchase XMR. Since many so-called exchanges, CEX or otherwise are outright scams or selective scammers it takes a lot of time to find a somewhat trustworthy one. Even if you find one that is trustworthy, the fees can be astronomical, think Bitcoin ATMs with a 15% fee of the amount purchased. You find one that trades XMR and seems to have a good reputation with relatively low fees (example Kraken Pro with fees of 0.26% or less). See

Then you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to open an account, provide KYC documents, proof of residence, etc. Then you have to transfer fiat currency to the exchange without having your bank account closed for “suspicious activity”. If you do manage to buy Monero, then you have an IOU from the CEX. Being a wise digital asset speculator, you know the adage “not your keys, not your coins” so you know you have to withdraw your XMR to a non-custodial wallet. So you look at what’s available at

You realize that while a mobile wallet like Cake Wallet is a perfect fit for small quantities of Monero it’s probably not the best idea to be carrying large quantities of XMR on your mobile phone where you could easily be robbed. You realize a better place to store your private keys would be on a desktop or laptop computer at your home. You’ve heard that Windows computers have a lot of malware that could potentially steal your Monero so instead of using your main computer, you buy a second computer for the sole purpose of holding your precious XMR. Instead of Windows, you’ll install Linux which is a safer option. But which Linux distribution to choose? You decide on a Linux distro that is supposed to be easy for beginners, Ubuntu. But which version (LTS or non-LTS). LTS versions are generally more stable and reliable so you install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS instead of the non-LTS version 23.10. Which wallet do you put on this Ubuntu computer? Since you do not have a computer science degree and know next to nothing about a Command Line Interface (CLI) you correctly choose the Monero GUI Wallet with a (Graphical User Interface). Next you have to wait up to 24 hours, depending on the speed of your internet connection, to sync your Monero GUI Wallet with the Monero blockchain. Once your GUI Wallet is synced you now transfer your XMR from Kraken to your laptop GUI wallet. You have set up 2FA at Kraken to mitigate the chance that your account could be hacked. Also, instead of transferring all of your XMR at once from Kraken you make 2 withdrawals, the first withdrawal for 0.1 XMR and once that withdrawal goes through without a hitch you withdraw the rest of your XMR. You backup your seed phrase, password and private keys in multiple other places in case your laptop malfunctions. Congratulations! You have successfully navigated the level 1 of the real life game that is Monero minefields and have emerged on the other side with your XMR intact and possession of your private keys. How many levels of Monero minefields are there? Only time will tell.

Did you know that you can use ring signature for real crypto voting? Or to gathering fully anonymous surveys? Take a look on cryptopoll.org - a LSAG code from Monero deployed to webpage.

This webpage generates signature using Monero codebase MLSAG_Gen/MLSAG_Ver functions so it have the same security as the original Monero code.

I hope one day the world will do digital voting using modern cryptography where no fraud is possible, where everything is clean and verifiable, and meanwhile still fully anonymous.

The future is here

Hi Guys,

After the Binance delisting, I see many apps and websites are stuck with the price of 118$ which is not correct. Even coinmarketcap is struggling. But some services like coingecko are running fine...

I guess we should remind these websites and apps to get their act together and fix this problem...

I've recently read that previously unreleased emails from the early Bitcoin's developer/creator Satoshi Nakamoto have been made available. The data shows emails from him with timestamps and email addresses. But ofc there's plenty of data left behind potentially tracking him (Github's accounts and repositories for example).

Some years ago I also remember reading that US authorities supposedly were looking for him. But couldn't find him.

I wonder: how, with this wealth of data they couldn't do that? Couldn't they contact the email provider, check IP addresses, contact internet service providers, map IP addresses' users and identify him (or significantly restrict the field of people)?

Are enforcement agencies incompetent? Are these data too old to be useful in any way and/or authorities didn't have such data up until now? Are authorities not really looking for him?

Feel free to random chit-chat but I'd like to have someone's expert opinion on the topic. If any.

PS: I'm posting here cause I don't use the Bitcoin sub, so I don't feel like asking there asking there about anonimity and the likes.
