Italy Taxing Crypto (old.reddit.com)

As I'm sure many of you saw, Italy apparently raised the tax rate on crypto from 26 to 42% which is insane. Now I've been critical of monero over the years, but at the same time have always held a position because I do think that there will always be reasons to need a currency that is not traceable. Whether it's for positive or not, so positive reasons.

I have been very impressed by the resilience of the price (I obviously am concerned primarily about price as I don't make significant numbers of monero transactions) despite the delisting from binance. I know that the haveno application just launched though I don't really know the technical details of how you can fund transactions. I assume you still need a crypto whether it's Bitcoin or otherwise. But it will be interesting to watch monero unfold over the next few years. I believe it will go well beyond the market cap it is currently sitting at though. How do they even get the full market cap of monero? Anyways, good stuff

Just noticed a massive mistake and I previously declared the country of Aleve had increased their crypto taxes. It's fixed now, luckily Aleve has left their taxes alone.

Hi all,

I wanted to give an update on the Haveno multi-platform app that's been in the works for the past 4 months, despite already having some working prereleases, I can now confirm the milestone for completing the protocol API is complete and is available at the Haveno Dart Repo, use v3.0.1 if you're interested in using it to make any trading bots and more. I have written a guide to help you get started with developing Haveno bots.

For those who are not developers we're about 6 weeks away from a full release hopefully if you're interested, you call follow for more milestone updates here:

Any questions at all you can reach me in Monero or Haveno Matrix chats!

According to , the hashrate right now is 3.53 GH/s.

It looks like that might be a new all-time high.

Thank you to all of you who mine Monero and help secure the network.

Let's hope it continues to go even higher.

It's a common worry that in the absence of CEXs, the use of p2p channels to swap xmr may give you btc that may be deemed 'tainted' and get you into trouble with CEXs when you want a fiat off ramp.

But you don't need to worry much as there is a simple way to mitigate such troubles.

Let's say someone has some btc that they think may be tainted. Now if they have a self custodial lightning wallet and have a channel open (for example using Phoenix wallet or similar), there is nothing to prevent them depositing these btc into that channel and increasing it's outbound capacity. Note that in trying to do so, at no point can their btc get frozen because it's always in their custody. But once the channel capacity is increased, now there is also no reason why they won't be able to make a lightning deposit for the full outbound capacity to a CEX who accepts lightning deposits.

The CEX is only looking at their inbound channel (and this isn't even going to be with you) so there is nothing they have visible to tell them about the nature of your btc.

So my question is: How come this is not a way anyone can make valid deposits to a CEX of btc that may be tainted and yet never run the risk of having their deposit withheld or frozen?

The only entity who could see your deposited btc is the entity you have the channel with but even they cannot actually freeze your btc. At best they may refuse to open the channel. Still, this means the situation is a lot better than getting surprised and having your btc frozen after depositing on a CEX. You then always have the chance to again swap your btc on a dex to get new utxos that may hopefully be deemed clean. The point being this route prevents any entity get leverage on you by freezing your funds after they are in control of it.

All of the above should encourage use of xmr atomic swaps and dexes for liquidity in both directions.

What is Haveno?

Haveno is a decentralized exchange (DEX) for trading Monero (XMR) p2p. It offers a user-friendly, private, and secure way to trade without relying on centralized exchanges. Think of Haveno as a p2p Localmonero alternative.

Download Haveno

  • Visit and download the version for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
  • Some antivirus programs might flag Haveno due to the embedded Monero codebase. This is a false positive and happens because Monero code includes mining functionality. If you are concerned, review the source code on the Haveno-reto GitHub.
  • If the software is blocked, you can add it as an exception or temporarily disable your antivirus during installation.

Video Tutorial

What is Haveno-Reto? Understanding the Network

You might be wondering, what’s the difference between Haveno and Haveno-Reto? Here’s a simple analogy:

  • Haveno is the software.
  • Haveno-Reto is a live p2p network you connect to for real trades on the mainnet (third-party, not by the Haveno devs).

Think of it like Minecraft: Minecraft is the software, while Hypixel is a server you connect to for multiplayer games. Similarly, Haveno is the software, and Haveno-Reto is the network where real trading happens.

Avoid Testnet Confusion

If you download the unconfigured client from the main Haveno-Dex GitHub repository, you’ll only connect to the Monero testnet. This means you won't be able to make real trades. To trade on the mainnet, make sure you're using the pre-configured Haveno-Reto client.

Haveno is live on mainnet and you can use it today but many people are still struggling to install it, mainly due to a lack of easily accessible information. This guide is supposed to address this.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread!

Haveno, Atomic Swaps, and FCMP are all great plans for future advancements.

However, in the future, governments worldwide will likely use AI to monitor blockchains for criminal activity and tax evasion. This could merely serve as an excuse to increase surveillance on everyone, and anyone using Monero could be perceived as engaging in criminal activity.

I also foresee that these governments will eventually mandate the conversion of all fiat currencies to Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) by a specific deadline, possibly in response to a global cyberattack or some other orchestrated event.

After this deadline, physical paper fiat money will no longer be accepted. At that point, what will Monero be used for? We won’t want Bitcoin, and paper fiat currency will no longer exist.

I don’t see anyone in the Monero community discussing this. Will governments around the world do this, and will it affect our beloved freedom coin?

On a Mac, downloaded at haveno-reto.com, selected an offer, followed the instructions on screen, sent a security deposit, waited for the seller's XMR to confirm for 20 min, then sent around $100 using Venmo, he confirmed he got it, all in the span of about 30 min, and 20 of those minutes were spent waiting and doing other things.

It really is that easy. We need decentralized, uncensored, non-KYC liquidity. This is the way forward for Monero.

The Problem:

There are currently over 300k members in this sub, and only around 25 offers for USD (maybe close to 100 offers including every currency).

What everyone in this sub and community needs to understand is that Haveno is currently one of if not the only decentralized exchanges supporting Monero. Kraken exists, and other small exchanges try to fill the void, but they will all inevitably be regulated into oblivion.

You need to stop putting your faith in centralized exchanges like Kraken or whatever your current source is. They will fall, just like every other exchange has been. We've all seen this happening of the last months, and it will only get worse.

The Solution:

THE ONLY EXCHANGES that will survive authoritarian governments' crusade against Monero are DEXs. The way Monero is going to spread is through people using DEXs. These are the future!

Simple How To:

If you haven't tried using Haveno, many people can back up its legitimacy. Simply click the link above to download Haveno Reto, open it up, and look at the offers available. If you find one you'd like to take in your currency, Haveno will guide you through the process of setting up an account for that payment method, whether you choose pay by mail, Zelle, PayPal, etc.

Good luck everyone.

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to:

  • Give a description of the item.
  • Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical).
  • Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability).
  • Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key).
  • Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

I'm setting up a home lab server to self host a bunch of services. I'll be using Proxmox, and I intend to setup one LXC for Monero. I need an XMR node that I can access remotely from a mobile wallet, and a block explorer. I'd also like it to have a p2pool node that I can connect external miners to. I wouldn't mind also having a visual dashboard that use to easily check on the status of everything, if something like that exists. Are there any other hostable tools or services that I could add to this container?

Is there a specific project that ties these various elements together, or a guide that would walk me through the process? I looked at PiNode-XMR, but I need something for an x86 server.

What are the resource requirements for something like this? How much storage and processing power do I need to allocate to it?

2024 Crypto Crime Trends

... Through 2021, Bitcoin reigned supreme as the cryptocurrency of choice among cybercriminals, likely due to its high liquidity. But that’s changed over the last two years, with stablecoins now accounting for the majority of all illicit transaction volume ... Some forms of illicit cryptocurrency activity, such as darknet market sales and ransomware extortion, still take place predominantly in Bitcoin. Others, like scamming and transactions associated with sanctioned entities, have shifted to stablecoins ...

End notes: ... These estimates do not include privacy coins like Monero.

Kraken confirmed this recently as well by delisting Monero in EU ... and in January 2025, we can expect a similar blog by Chainalysis again.

Swapping to tainted BTC (old.reddit.com)

I checked kycnot.me for services that could swap Monero to Bitcoin and I used wizardswap. I swapped some moneros for bitcoin and sent the bitcoins directly to Binance.

Shortly after, I receive this email from Binance:

Request for Information - Additional Details Required for Transactions Potential Violation of Terms of Use

Dear Binancian,

This message is to inform you that your recent deposit/withdrawal transaction has been identified as potentially violating our Terms of Use.

Type | Coin | Amount

Deposit | BTC | 0.01253849

Please kindly note that any future transactions that are confirmed to be in violation of our Terms of Use may result in your account being restricted, suspended, or terminated.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please acknowledge and provide the information regarding your transaction(s) below within 30 days in order for us to process your application promptly. If we do not receive the requested information within 30 days, your Binance account may be restricted.

I do not know what are the checks in place from Binance's side but my guess is that even if 0.01$ is tainted, the whole transaction would be flagged. I do not expect them to release the money anytime soon, will update as the case is still ongoing and pending for reply from their side.

The lesson and main question that I extract from this is:

Is there any swap service that's 100% guaranteed to not give you tainted BTC?

Feels like these services could potentially taint all XMR swaps and render the BTC received worthless.

As much as I love monero, it's a project and it's not something to be revered in and of itself.

Yet... where are people going to go, now? All the cypherpunks. All the academics. All the people in dire straights with no choice. All the people who want better but don't know where to go--yet want anything solid to tether themselves upon for now.

Anything other than the building crescendo of totalitarian control wrapping itself around us like an anaconda.

If the project fails, the same energy, movement, and talent will dissipate and recongeal in more places.

Darkfi is an example. it's integrating now but it will adapt if something with monero goes wrong.

I don't think monero is in the position right now of "there can only be one." If something better comes along, monero people would flock to that while also not abandoning monero.

But so many things have failed. None are perfect. If you're using signal instead of whatsapp. that's good. Simplex is better. threema is awesome (REPRODUCIBLE BUILDS FTW).

You can even find good things just by looking for what things accept monero as payment. If it accepts monero, odds are there's something really good behind it. (not talking about DNM which are their own thing).

There's something very good happening within the people who touch monero from every part except the resistance to the resistance. There's beauty and humanity. There's integrity. Not all contributions are the same by any means but all of them seem welcome and no one seems to bicker about who's doing more.

There's great potential for love which we already know is here, and so much potential for the betterment of society in a world that seems so bleak without the people here.

The State's Attack on Monero

By: MoneroMavrick, on X

Suppress Price as the darkweb ditches bitcoin for Monero

Slowly start to have exchanges one by one de list spread months apart as to not garner much if any attention besides monero community

Start to Silence anybody talking about Monero (Shadow-ban, Perma ban)

Once De-Listed on everything making sure people cant do a mass exodus from the public bank accounts they've been using. Ban it and make it illegal

Release CBDC

Retain control knowing that the crypto that shall not be named was not used as an escape from the control of the state

Profit

Hello everyone,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the upcoming winding-down of RINO.

A few years ago we realised Monero was missing critical bits of professional tooling for teams, be it companies, NGOs or fluid groups of individuals. One missing tool we identified was a wallet software that allows multiple users to deal with shared funds in a secure way. Professional principles such as splitting roles among transaction preparers and approvers, hierarchical transaction limits within an organisation etc were not just available for every other large blockchain project, they are the de-facto standard used in the industry.

And so we embarked on a mission to offer similar tooling for Monero, aiming to boost its adoption by the industry at large. This was and remains a worthy and exciting goal, especially as the Monero project is too often delisted or unsupported, often out of regulatory concerns but also because the usual tools expected by the industry are still largely absent.

While we attempted to monetize the platform via paying businesses, we’ve also always offered a free version of RINO so the community benefit from its features. It was not just the main RINO wallet product: many of you will remember using our “community tools” over the years, such as nodes, explorers, faucets, docker images etc. We are very proud of this and grateful to all community members for the nice words over the years.

Ultimately though, our attempts to monetize the product never bore fruit to a point where the product could sustain itself, and at some point we have to cut our losses. As a consequence, we decided to discontinue the RINO product.

We will shut down the platform on October 31st, 2024. If you want to withdraw your funds via the RINO platform, please do so until that date. After that date, you will have to use your recovery document, allowing you to access your funds locally.

Long live Monero, and a big thank you to everyone who supported us. We hope to build more cool things with Monero in the future :)

The RINO team

PS: Note that there is a known bug affecting wallets that haven’t been accessed for a long time, due to a synchronisation issue. If you connect for the first time since many months, it is possible your wallet will hang when attempting to send a transaction. If it is the case, just wait ~1h (your wallet will automatically resync on our servers), after which it will be fully functional. This only affects old wallets not accessed for a while, and will only affect them once.

PPS: Unfortunately there is no “sweep” feature on RINO. If you want to empty your wallet via the RINO platform it is possible some picoxmr dust remains on your wallet if you do not take exactly into account the transaction fees. Use your recovery document if you want to access remaining dust.
