Hello guys,

I have been working on a design that potentially completely fixes popular financial Man-In-The-Middle scam schemes that are heavily detrimental to P2P crypto markets.

I think this is very relevant to services like LocalMonero, Haveno and all P2P Cash-to-Crypto services in general. I have a suspicion that the scam and the loophole that enables the scam described in the RFC document could the very probably be the major if not the main cause of downfall of all P2P crypto markets like LocalBitcoins, Local.Bitcoin.com, LocalMonero and others that have bitten the dust.

The technological standard is called ZKAM-FMT (Zero-Kyc Assurance Mechanism For Fiduciary Money Transfer).

Here is the RFC (Draft) in 2 formats: [HTML] (gitlab link) and [PDF] (gitlab link):

If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to join the already ongoing standarization discussion in the BCH community [here].

While being delisted from every exchange XMR in August 2024 processed around 20,000 transactions per day.

My question is simple really. Why when you have a 600-1000 Mbps Swedish fiber connection and a beefy computer does syncing only use a negligable amount of bandwidth and CPU. I suspect it has to do with the policy of other nodes on the network. A larger block sync count yields no progress while setting it to 5 only gives you about 1 block/second.

I feel like development could be done in this area. For example, if you ask several nodes about the blockhashes for the next 5000 blocks. Then you could request those blocks from hundreds of nodes in parallel, re-requesting from other nodes the ones you don't recieve. This feels like it could saturate your own bandwidth and CPU without accidentally causing a denial of service on anyone else's node.

Imagine the bitcoin maxis get their shit together and activate a sidechain with monero level privacy, that you don't have to run a full node for to use privately, just like with monero.

Of course it would take time for it to gain market share.

What is the bullcase for monero in that scenario?

Saw this post about Full-Chain Membership Proofs and read the article. FCMP++ looks amazing and seems to provide many of the benefits of Seraphis.

  1. Is it still planned to migrate to Seraphis?
  2. What further benefits would Seraphis provide, after FCMP++?
  3. Approximately how much larger will transactions be after FCMP++? (50% larger? ~2x? ~10x?)
  4. How will this affect block size or transaction fees?

Thanks.

XMRBazaar is a Monero marketplace

The problem is the multi-sig has a loading glitch error in many popular browsers

An even bigger issue is that the official wallet's CLI multi-sig is difficult for a new user to setup, and not realistic for everyday commerce.

I know someday a better multi-sig will come. But even when it comes, do customers want to live in fear the second they release funds? No returns? No warranty? What about support?

How can customers be protected if XMR transactions are irreversible? Today we present a new path.

Simplified Privacy submited a 2 Monero deposit with an arbitrator from XMRBazaar and registered it with our PGP key. All customers get a PGP signed receipt for decentralized email combo clouds, private DeGoogled phones, or other tech services. And this is regardless of if you use the the Bazaar website or any encrypted messenger.

If we fail to deliver on our promises, you can contact the arbitrator (AilliA), and show your PGP signed receipt. If we fail to respond or provide proof of delivery within 2 weeks, AilliA will pay you XMR from our deposit.

Although the amount of money is low, it is symbolic. So maybe, other businesses can copy the model to spread Monero. That it's not just an asset we're gambling on. It's a way life.

Deposit info:

Cloud Combo Package: Email, Docs, & Chat, Go Self-Sovereign! Take Back Control of your Data and Accounts with your own tiny cloud (VPS):

Keep your name off the hardware of a DeGoogled Phone:

This article has disappeared (2020-August-31):

CipherTrace delivers Monero tracing tools ... CipherTrace developed tools to explore Monero transactions to assist in investigations. These tools include transaction search, exploration, and visualization tools for Monero transaction flows that have been integrated with CipherTrace’s Inspector financial investigations product. This provides ways to track stolen Monero currencies or Monero currencies used in illegal transactions. It also helps assure cryptocurrency exchanges, OTC trading desks, investment funds and custody providers that they do not accept Monero from illicit sources and investigate Monero received from potentially illicit sources and take appropriate actions to stay in compliance ...

With 45% of darknet markets now using Monero—the second-favorite cryptocurrency of choice among criminals just behind bitcoin—law enforcement interest in Monero tracing has soared. Monero employs a particularly unique design to ensure user anonymity including always-on, enforced privacy. Ring signatures, which enable transaction mixing, are built into the protocol design, so when attempting to locate the source of a transaction, it will appear as if a whole crowd of users took part in the exchange, making it nearly impossible to identify the true source. ... “Monero (XMR) is one of the most privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies,” ...

MasterCard no longer mentions Monero tracking.
