The EU is trying to sneakily impose cash limits EU-wide:

  • €3k limit on anonymous payments
  • €10k limit regardless (link which also lists state-by-state limits).
  • All anonymous cryptocurrency transactions banned regardless of amount

From the jailed¹ article:

An EU-wide maximum limit of €10 000 is set for cash payments, which will make it harder for criminals to launder dirty money.

It will also strip dignity and autonomy from non-criminal adults, you nannying assholes!

In addition, according to the provisional agreement, obliged entities will need to identify and verify the identity of a person who carries out an occasional transaction in cash between €3 000 and €10 000.

The hunt for “money launderers” and “terrorists” is not likely meaningfully facilitated by depriving the privacy of people involved in small €3k transactions. It’s a bogus excuse for empowering a police surveillance state. It’s a shame how quietly this apparently happened. No news or chatter about it.

¹ the EU’s own website is an exclusive privacy-abusing Cloudflare site inaccessible several demographics of people. Sad that we need to rely on the website of a US library to get equitable access to official EU communication.

update

The Pirate party’s reaction is spot on. They also point out that cryptocurrency is affected. Which in the end amounts to forced banking.

How to contact your MEP:

Chat control was beat. This can be too. Contact your MEP, let them know this issue is important to you:

I liked local monero because you had an option to buy the crypto with e transfer.

other alternatives seem to be crypto only, I need one that offers the payment via e transfer.

non KYC are greatly welcomed but I'll take what I can get.

It forced everybody to update but then all of my old trade listings were stuck at 'pending' so I removed them. Can't re-add them because it says 'no arbitrators available'.

Questions:

  • Do you just have to wait for everybody to switch to v1.0.9?
  • The number of offers on v1.0.9 is still 10% of what it says on older versions, I guess it's not backwards compatible?

I have an open trade where the other trader never sent the payment and isn't responding. My messages are being received but there is no response. What can be done besides raising the deposit amount up from 15%? I don't want to penalize good traders with a higher deposit.

Hopefully since kraken is on board of directors, marco (clo) should promote our interests more. I feel like blockchain association cares more about "regular" crypto but they should also be promoting better nokyc/msb regulations to make monero circular economy better. Idk I think monero needs non profit organization that focuses on state, country, global regulation policy.

In case you haven't noticed, there is right now going on a massive outage or system failure of some sort that is affecting many banks and payment systems.

"Global IT outage takes banking services offline as card payments and shops hit with issues"

"Mass IT outage affects airlines, media and banks"

However, by looking at www.monero.how and www.exploremonero.com/info, our payment system seems to be working as intended.

Don't situations like this highlight the usefulness of a decentralized system?

Hello r/monero,

I've posted in this subreddit a few times during the past 3 years, and today is a special day as we just turned 3 years old!

We've been providing VPS and Webhosting for the monero community during that time, and will hopefully continue to do so for many many years to come.

To celebrate our 3rd anniversary we are offering 30% off recurring on all our products except ARM Vps, and Cloud servers with the coupon 3YEARS_30 (to be used at checkout).

Since the last time i've posted we applied a lot of the feedback we got here and elsewhere, we now have a tor address. We are also now offering Windows VPS.

If you don't know us, we are an anonymous hosting provider, we don't require any personal data to setup your hosting service.

As usual let us know what you think about our new offers and our services in general, all feedback are welcome :)

You can check us out here:

Doing our best to fight for privacy and the decentralized economy.

Thank you for reading :)

Hi all,

Tommy from AllArk here.

Ever thought how you could use your XMR to spend while traveling?

We had soft launched a completely private, zero KYC XMR to Cash service across the US, UK, Europe and Middle East in 2023 and now, after many successful orders, we are Launching it fully.

Now you can fully exchange XMR (and other cryptos) for Cash (and spend it freely) in multiple cities in

  1. USA
  2. UK
  3. Europe
  4. Middle East

We have: $, £, €

If there is a city that is not listed, please reach out to us on Session and we will set something up.

We can cash out amounts ranging from a few thousand $ to $250k+ per transaction. You do not need to do anything after order is placed other than

  1. Meet up at specified location.
  2. Get cash.
  3. That's it.

Our coverage area is adding new cities every day and we currently offer cashing out XMR to Cash in over 120 cities across the 4 regions listed above. 🙂

Just a short and sweet announcement for the Monero community in 2024!

Hope this helps some of you.

Cheers! Tommy from AllArk

Been following discussion about v1.0.8 "No seed nodes available" in Haveno-reto. Anyway around this without having to build out Haveno oneself? Or is there a version that already has the filter object registered? Or is this something that'll be addressed in future versions of Haveno so it's read out-of-the-box? Many who try out Haveno and are balked at this step may just decide it's not for them.

One of the Haveno community's/project's expressed goals was for Haveno to be user-friendly and tech-simple (relative to Bisq) to encourage broad adoption. Thanks for your work!

Some of you may be familiar with OpenAlias, a username address specification that is widely implemented in Monero wallets and also in some Bitcoin wallets like Electrum. It relies on DNS TXT records.

If you're not familiar with OpenAlias, please read this first.

OpenAlias v1 (the current design) has existed since 2014-2015, and it has worked wonderfully at what it set out to do. However, it was not designed for assets to exist on multiple chains, and it lacks some modern features that people may wish to use.

Thus, I have started a discussion for an OpenAlias v2 specification. The primary goals for OAv2 are the following:

  1. Retain the advantages of OpenAlias v1.
  2. Remain asset/blockchain agnostic.
  3. Avoid conflicting with other standards, such as ENS and BIP-353.
  4. Better support assets existing on multiple blockchains and L2s, such as USDT existing on Ethereum, Polygon, Tron, etc.
  5. Support additional optional metadata features.

You can read and comment on the full discussion and the suggested v2 specification here:

Your comments are much appreciated!

I am nothing but thankful for /u/monerobull's initiative with monero.town, to the point I'd consider Lemmy a solid replacement to reddit. I hardly ever log into reddit, just to post Revuo issues every week and some meme here and there.

However, the recent downtime caused by the non-stop DDoS attack has brought the instance to a halt. It was brought back to life a couple days ago but behind Cloudflare's attack mode, so visiting town gets you a captcha served by them, which effectively breaks federation with other Lemmy instances and impacts visibility of our posts, let alone comments.

After taking the personal decision of importing my settings and deleting my account at town for the aforementioned reasons, gone through some research to find non-Cloudflare instances, I found lemmy.cafe to be the best-looking, solid track record, seemingly well positioned instance to flock to.

Please join us over at if you'd like to keep the momentum alive in the fediverse!

Disclaimer: I'm one of the developers.

Disclaimer2: I'm not an affiliate of monerodice.net, which has been "temporarily disabled" for the last 7 years.

I would like to introduce a new game on the Monero blockchain: MoneroDice ().

MoneroDice is a simple, privacy-respecting dice game. No accounts or deposits are needed to play. No KYC is required at any step.

Choose your win multiplier, odds, & bet amount, and roll the dice by sending Monero.

The dice game has two modes: Fast, and Provably Fair.

Fast mode optimises for speed:

  • the dice are rolled as soon as the transaction is seen in the pool, even before any network confirmations. In this way, players instantly find out if they won.

  • if there’s a payout, it’s nearly always sent without waiting the usual 10-confirmation Monero unlock time.

So, if the Monero network is not congested, it usually takes only a few minutes to go from bet to payout.

In Provably Fair mode, the dice roll is derived from the Monero transaction itself. The algorithm is described in detail on our FAQ page.

This mode requires the transaction to be fully confirmed before the roll. This is done to prevent unexpected behavior: without full confirmation, Monero network reorganizations would change the roll in the middle of processing, delivering the player an unpleasant experience.

You can also play blackjack, both its classic and four-deck versions. Each time you win, you will be greeted with stunning audiovisual effects.

The Blackjack game was written completely from scratch and so far it has been played only by a small number of users. Play carefully.

All suggestions to improve these games are very welcome.

Good luck! ⚀⚁⚂⚃⚄⚅

To make a Haveno Listing request through Libera. This is better than posting on Reddit.

Browser Chat:

Channel: Haveno

I hope to establish a local P2P network for XMR and privacy activists.

I'm trying promote Haveno with a thread that allows people to request a specific listing or payment method they are looking for.

The reason for this is because the app lacks any communication method until an order has already been placed. This forces a seller to reserve XMR for each specific payment type in a listing before the order has been locked-in, rather than the typical escrow pool that Local Monero used.

This could also be useful for establishing more P2P options for selling monero for cash in person as well, because this is literally one of the most asked about aspects of the currency. No one is going to do it for us, so I think we need to do it here ourselves!

It's bare hypocritical that the UK doesn't want its citizens to be able to buy XMR, but when it gets hold of some from a convicted criminal it decides that it's conducive to the public good to put it back into circulation by selling it to unknown persons on an exchange.

Also got to laugh at Detective Sergeant David MacFarlane from Cheshire Police’s Cyber Crime Unit who said:

“The Cheshire Cyber Crime Unit conducted the initial seizure of the cryptocurrency. This posed several challenges due to the particular type of cryptocurrency; however, these were overcome and has resulted in the forfeiture of the funds by the National Food Crime Unit.”

As the article says, what actually happened is the convicted guy gave them his Monero in exchange for a reduced sentence. Great job you did "overcoming" Monero's security Dave!

Also, wtf is the "National Food Crime Unit"? Do they arrest people who serve spotted dick with ice-cream instead of lumpy custard, or anyone who makes disparaging remarks about tripe?
