This recent YouTube video from LTT on the topic of ripping DVDs and Blu-rays has got me wondering:

I'm not a big fan of stores, hoarding physical stuff and DVDs and Blu-rays, but I do love owning my stuff digitally and supporting the artists. Is there a service that let's you buy the movie, TV series or anime that you want to watch and then simply download it to your drive? No app, no subscription bs, no delivery, just straight money for an .mkv file and that's it?

TL:DR: Is there an equivalent to Qobuz but for visual enjoyment?

Edit: So in summary, the often repeated mantra of "piracy exists because it is more convenient than traditional services" doesn't just apply to subscription streaming services, it applies to direct digital movie purchases too. I suppose the best approach remains to split the "supporting artists" part from the "digital file getting" part, at least until a service with a modern catalogue pops up that unifies the two parts.

Chegg? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by aldalire@lemmy.dbzer0.com to c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I was looking for ways to bypass the Chegg blur. I came across this reddit thread (https://archive.is/Z4r5c#selection-2584.0-2584.1) and one of the comments read:

"There used to be a website (probably 5 years ago) that’d scrape answers when you post the link. I can’t remember the name though, but hopefully someone else here is privy to it (if it still exists)."

The comment underneath was removed by reddit, but I can't help but think that the link removed by reddit might be this website. Fuck reddit btw, glad we're in this ship now. Anyone here know which site they mentioned?

Is there something like Spotify Downloader or yt-dlp for Lidarr?

I got spotify playlists imported into Lidarr, but the artists I listen to don't seem to have any torrents.

I don't mind the quality hit of something like spotifydownloader which pulls from youtube. Is there anything like that or yt-dlp integrated into Lidarr for automated downloads?

Today I encountered something new and dystopian:

You can airplay from your iphone to an appletv but now youtube drops and locks the quality at 360p, making the content unwatchable on larger screens.

Once you disable airplay, the quality jumps back to 1080p. If you choose 1080p before and enable airiplay after, it still changes.

This hasnt been an issue for years. this new anti consumer move prompted me to order another raspberry pi to put kodi on.

I have a lot of problems with stability using the linuxserver/transmission docker image in my *arr stack. I setup restarting on unhealthy status in docker compose (using the following test command curl --fail http://localhost:9091 || exit 1) but even then, sometimes I just find that my donwloads have stopped and find that the container is not running at all. Do you have an alternative to suggest, which could run in docker compose?

I want to use my MiG switch dumper to copy a game and have me and my buddy play them at the same time.

If we both play the same one online at the same time do we risk a ban?

I noticed that previous articles about it mentioned you could actually fake certificates and make it seem like two different games were playing? Does anyone know if that's still a thing?

Its pretty much the title I'm just genuinely wondering how you guys are keeping track of all of your legally sourced files. I'm pretty much just relying on a spreadsheet but is that really the best way? Especially for the less technically inclined individuals such as myself

Edit: I apologize thought it was obvious but looking back I could've been more specific. I was referring to movies, TV shows, YouTube videos, books, audiobooks, etc. I haven't taken the leap to self host anything yet just growing my library for now on a couple of encrypted drives until the time comes. You don't really need to provide tailored answers towards my situation I just want to know what's out there in terms of keeping track of stuff. Thank you in advance since this account is a burner and I check it like once a day

Edit #2: appreciate all of your feedback. Seems the majority rely on jellyfin and other software to automatically check what you have stored which I didn't even know it could do that's interesting.

Do they have a website or something? I found a codex torrent for X-plane on 1337x but it won't download so I'm guessing it has no seeders. Is there somewhere else I can try to find a healthier version of the torrent?

I think there is a deep need for someone to create a page listing all the ways someone can help seperated by the media type.

The previous generations of pirates who contribute is becoming too old to sustain, we need a new generation of pirates to keep piracy going for more time.

All the guides are for lurkers but there is no guides/ pages for providers.

Pirating VR games (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I am buying a VR Headset to play games. I don't know if I'll buy a standalone or PCVR headset, but if I were to buy a standalone like the Meta Quest 3, having the possiblity of connecting to PC is a must.

I was wondering though how can you actually play pirated VR games. Does it work the same way as normal games where you just execute it and that's it? I am asking mainly because of platforms like SteamVR, which some reviews on VR headsets I have watched make it seem like it is a mandatory thing to have if you want to play games, but playing pirated games is something else entirely.

Wanting to torrent in a country other than my own, I've been exiting via Singapore as it has the most direct path I believe. Any reason not to ? Any superior choices for whatever reason ? Couldn't find this discussed anywhere. TIA.

Do I use a website to download songs off of YouTube or Spotify?

Where should I store the music? I haven't any clue about self-hosting. I'm running GrapheneOS, is it enough to save the songs in Files and play in an app like Auxio? Maybe sync with SyncThing?

What's the best way to compress mp3 files but still retain the quality (even possible)?

Could really use some help as I'm very inexperienced. :)
