My torrent client downloads files to internal SSD. When I'm low on storage (often), I remove some torrents from qbittorrent and move files to external HDD. It means I can't seed them anymore.

I want to be able to seed HDD torrents periodically. What workflow can I employ? I can think of:

  1. Use 2 different torrent clients. One with "external" torrents only. It will never be launched when external HDD is not plugged in, therefore old torrents will not be marked as "missing files" and will not require verification every now and then;

  2. Use single torrent client which can accept CLI commands to start/stop specific torrents. Before detaching external HDD I will run a script to stop all external torrents. I will resume them back again only when HDD is accessible.

Any other ideas?

Hi there, I'm trying to torrent an actual Linux ISO, but it's completely slow on aria2c and not happening at all on qbittorrent, even after downloading the qbittorrent 5.1.4 app image. I'm on CGNAT. I used to get good speeds but now it's all come to a screeching halt.

In qbittorrent, I see the fire icon, and have connections to ~304 DHT nodes, but the fire icon is still there.

Obligatory fuck my ISP...

Does this method work on Linux too?

Edit0: I'm disappointed that some people that take time to comment don't seem to take time to read the whole post. Then, perhaps, they would realize that this post is not an SSD vs. HDD discussion, that using HDDs are out of question with my current living situation and that I just wanted to vent among peers.
Edit1: While I'm not judging - I myself recently moved to my current apartment for the very sake of being able to seed nonstop - I'm disappointed at how some of the commenters don't take seeding for granted in a pirating community.

When I began building my server rig - which includes my torrenting setup - last year, I was able to find the 4TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD Samsung 870 EVO for about €300. I bought four of them, but now, I'm running out of space, so I checked a couple of retailers. Wowee. What is going on with these prices. 😂 Even Micron's Crucial brand, which at some point was the more affordable option, is way past it's curfew. 🤬

I just wanted to vent.

Since I'm one of those people who'd rather sleep in an anechoic chamber or at the very least use white noise or the likes in order to sleep, running HDDs doing random reads and writes next to my bed in my single room apartment is not a option.

managing e-magazines (eviltoast.org)

i have a nice emag PDF collection and browsing the filesystem via a simple nginx file-browser is ok so far, but i miss the cover view, bookmarking of pages and a PDF search.

i sort the mags in this kind of folder-structure via flexget (but sort them manually into a year folder if a mag has many releases per year).

├── National Geographic

├── National Geographic Traveler

i tried Kavita today which provide a nice cover view, but there is no grouping of magazines and i can not set a bookmark on a PDF page. I think it's desinged for book/comics/mangas.

Does anyone has another nice suggestion for a emag collection?

Or an idea how i can get grouping for my first-level folders in Kavita?

Has anyone else seen this? Do we know what this will mean for GenP going forwards? Apologies if this has been known about for a bit, I've only just seen the updated website.

I'm curious to know what kind of hoops people have to jump through to verify their age to watch porn?

I mean, how is age verified without identity verification and/or risk of privacy breaches? Do phones or emails get notifications or alerts? Do you have to do it each and every time et al?

I supposed I'm puzzled as to why anyone would risk watching porn if an app or entity is out there 'verifying' something, and (presumably) these things can be exploited or hacked.

I'm also assuming (hoping) that there are some hackers out there who are working on a workaround or add on.

thanks

how to organize files (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

recently ive started using the johnny decimal system which has helped with the chaos of my folders/files, and for me it has actually worked, everything is sorted in a very organized and meaningful way according to my own subjectivity. except for media. i tried using calibre for books, picard for music, i dont know what i could use for films/tv shows, but everything requires a lot of manual work, i have to verify the metadata is correct, or in some cases that the release is the correct one, sometimes the author isn't properly rendered, etc. is there a way to automate this? i know using something like radarr helps when you're downloading but what i am supposed to do with the files i already have?

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/1s3pv01/fyi_cineby_has_changed_domains/

Cineby.gd was taken down and has switched domains to .sc. In the comments of this post, apparently someone has been seeing it on TikTok, which would explain why.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are, anyone think some older games might start removing it? I was surprised looking through new game torrents getting reminded of all the games that had denuvo that I forgot about.

So basically most Muslim scholars say piracy is forbidden cause it's a form of stealing. The basics argument is taking anything from anyone without thier consent is morally wrong and haram. If someone makes anything like a book, game or software and he sells it you shouldn't pirate it unless they agree to give it for free.

There are exceptions for that, for example if you need a book or a course but you can't afford it you can pirate it on the promise that you'll give it's honor the money once you've it. Also, concealing knowledge is a sin in islam, so it's permitted to pirate books and courses if the platform had banned your country ips for example or you can't pay because us sanitation or if a state try to hide a boom for example or it's owner refused to share knowledge and decided to not sell his book anymore. but if it's available for sale it's haram to pirate it against it's owner will.

How do you guys argue against these fatwas? Are there fatwas that make piracy halal? Why do you think it's halal if you do?

Help with Paramount+ DRM (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Hi everyone, how are you?

First of all, if this topic is prohibited here, please let me know and I will remove it.

Has anyone had problems with the Widevine from Paramount Plus?

I took a break from downloading videos, but now I'm back, and my tool no longer captures the Paramount+ keys or the extensions I use. From what I've seen, their content is still Widevine L3, but it still doesn't work. About 5 months ago it was working normally.

I suspected the CDM, so I tried with a CDM a friend gave me, but it still doesn't work. The CDM's work in other places but not on Paramount+.

Is anyone able to capture the keys from there?
