The BrickLink website, which now has apparently been subsumed by LEGO, requires your birth year to enter – you can't enter at all if you input a year.

I don't know you, but I refuse to give this kind of information. So bye bye BrickLink!

I contacted their customer service and told them that I'll simply avoid the BrickLink website if it requires my birth year. Their loss.

If you also disagree with this I encourage you to get in touch with them as well.

I messed with the build a bit more and I feel that it is taking shape. I do not have a video of the latest progress.

I have pieces from original sets, but there are also many imitations, such as Chinese sets, which were bought for me as a child, because small Lego sets used to be very expensive at that time, while large craft sets were cheaper.

This build is a rat rod semi truck. I have plans one day to add something more to the back, instead of the panel bed.

2018 tractor build (media.piefed.world)
submitted 1 week ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

This was my attempt at making an International 856. I do not have any pictures of the updated build with red wheels. I put it on our club's layout from time to time.

Created by Chris Burden, and currently showing at LA's County Museum of Art (LACMA):
https://www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/metropolis-ii

It works as a miniature, kinetic city using magnets and conveyor belts to power over 1,100 toy cars on 18 roadways, with gravity providing most of the downhill momentum... all managed by operators and conservators for continuous motion.

  • Power System: Three electric conveyor belts, embedded with magnets, pull the cars to the top of the sculpture.
  • Gravity & Friction: Once released from the conveyor, cars race down the tracks, using gravity and momentum; Teflon-coated, beveled tracks and friction-inducing brushes help manage speed and flow.
  • Vehicles: 1,100 custom-made toy cars (and model trains/trolleys) designed for durability, with magnets on their undersides.
  • Architecture: An intricate grid of steel, wood, LEGO, and other materials forms buildings and roadways, with an operator stationed in the center to ensure smooth operation. --Gemini

Looking at the site brochure (link above): the exhibit runs for 5-6 daily half-hour shows, 4x per week, with one rest day, and two maintenance days(!)

I picked up set 31145 (media.piefed.world)
submitted 1 week ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

I picked up this set as part of a competition on the BrickBuilding Discord server. Basically, buy the set and see what all you can make from it. Only a few participated, but we all won something.

Cybercity - work in progress (media.piefed.world)
submitted 1 week ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

Our club is suppose to create a Detroit cyber city, using the New Hashima cube design, but the idea kind of gave up the ghost, so I am trying to inspire members what the idea could resemble. The idea has been in limbo for 2 years now. First there was gripe about the logo, which never came to fruition. Then the idea resurfaced earlier this year and fizzled out again. I'm really enjoying the idea and want to make more! Three of the cubes I made in May, took about 20 hours or so. The last cube, on the bottom right took about 8 hours or so.

Atlas, my steampunk realm (media.piefed.world)
submitted 2 weeks ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

This build is the biggest layout/display I have. There are two running trains and the Vibrant Duchess, an airship. Also a sprawling landscape with inventors galore. One inventor is working on their latest build, the Crimson Huntsman. It is a steampunk spider walker mech.

This build has gone through many iterations, but I think I am finally content with the results. Unfortunately I do not have a recent video or anything showcasing how the build opens. The top floors are removable featuring a wild west area with a prospector and the other side is an Egyptian showcase. The bottom floors are reception and old Model A cars. One day I might even add lights to it.

I do have an older set of pictures from last year: https://imgur.com/a/UmADx3G

I definitely felt that this display was lacking, so I decided to create a landscape for the build. I threw it together in 4 hours, so apologies about the crudity of the layout. I also wanted to give the build a sense of flight, so I elevated it with some trans-clear pieces. This build will be on display at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for two weeks.

I already have plans on what I need to do for cleaning up the layout, but I ran out of time last night.

Santa Slay (media.piefed.world)
submitted 3 weeks ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

This build was inspired by the recent santa sleigh Christmas set that was on sale during Black Friday. I almost pulled the trigger on it, but after looking up what parts it came with I decided to use that money to create a Bricklink order consisting of dark brown elephant trunks, and appendages (my favorite part) I knew I wanted to create an Eldritch Horror-esque type build, and roughly 5 hours later this was the end result last Friday. It will be on display at our last LEGO Christmas show of the year.

What person wouldn’t want this festive decoration?

Just moved my space shuttle set after it sitting on a shelf for a coupe of years and noticed that exactly 3 pieces have turned kind of yellow-ish.

Especially the one on in the wing seems odd. Anyone knows what causes this?

This build originated from a surplus of appendages (favorite part), elephant tails, along with dinosaur tails. I have a feeling if I were to ever make "kits" to sell for someone to create a "squ1ddos" build, this pretty much encapsulates my concept of building. I then decided that the build needed to resemble more of a carousel, as opposed to a statue. So I created a platform and did what I do best, and created a rotating abomination. Unfortunately all of this has been sacrificed for Veinhart Soul Engine and Swarm Core. One day I will revisit the idea and add it to the nightmare realm.

The Sky Squid (media.piefed.world)
submitted 3 weeks ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

This build was created out of the inspiration from meeting Michael Kanemoto at Brickworld Chicago this year and him letting me plunder his parts collection. He was glad to meet another bar and clip type builder. So the back story behind this build is that it ties into the apocalyptic scraps realm and Arachnis’ Swarm Node. Basically the humans have harnessed Arachnis’ technology and are going to use it for taking down the Swarm Nodes.

The Floravore (media.piefed.world)
submitted 4 weeks ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

This build has gone through a few iterations and was inspired by the lavender plant piece. I wanted to create a monster that uses the plant pieces and sculpt something from it. There’s a short story, but I only have it on the video I created for the nightmare realm. This is the 4th creature that make up the nightmare realm. Technically there’s a 5th, the nightmare carousel, but it was sacificed for the greater good. I’ll post that as well sometime.

The Conductor (media.piefed.world)
submitted 4 weeks ago by squ1ddos@piefed.world to c/lego@lemmy.world

The Conductor has awoken to feast
every step taken brings the monster closer.
The hands of the damned start to rise from the depths as distorted abominations appear
The ground starts to tremor as the engipedes shoot out of their nest, towering over and closing in.
The creature below has awakened and is ready to feast.
The body is ingested and harvested for The Conductor’s fuel.
Once consumed, the surface folds in on itself and prepares for the next meal.
A defiled display is all that remains of a corpse as the bones are thrown into the air
To satiate the realm that remains.
