I've noticed a lot of posts that have the word "rule" added to it even when it doesn't seem to make sense. Sometimes I've even seen titles with only the word "rule". Anyone know what it's about?

Ages ago Elon Musk used to be positively regarded by most people. I missed everything that happened that changed the public opinion, I missed the changes he imposed on Twitter (though I gather it's the same as it happened with reddit, only earlier) and yeah. I'm out of the loop. If someone can briefly recap the main events I'd be grateful.

For me, things went like this: Pre-pandemic, everybody wants to own a tesla ev, Elon is smoking pot with Joe Rogan and the world is cheering. Then the pandemic hits. Then the pandemic lifts. Then in 2023 all of a sudden everyone online saying he's awful, a blood emerald hoarder, destroyer of twitter, tesla stinks, etc etc. Did it all happen overnight? Was there a main trigger event or was it a gradual thing? What, exactly happened to twitter after his takeover- is reddit truly a by-the-book carbon copy of his decisions with API changes?

I've been living under a rock.

Why is everyone talking about some married couple traveling around upset about money? How does race factor into it? One of them is named Harry right? Did they have to change the rules about who gets to be queen because of this?

I've seen quite a lot of memes and content related to the titanic on my frontpage. Waht's going on?

I keep running into comments where users are arguing for avoiding Lemmy, claiming that Lemmy supports authoritarian governments, supports the CCP, sides with Russia in their invasion of Ukraine, denies genocides committed by nominal communist governments, and other similar political claims. I know there are communist instances and whatnot, but I'm well aware that identifying as a communist doesn't mean that someone wants a dictatorial government or denies genocides.

• Can we figure this out and have any supporting evidence either way to end the rumors?
• Is there any evidence that Lemmy is advocating against democracy, pro dictatorships, denying and/or advocating for genocides?
• Is there evidence that using Lemmy supports genocidal aspiring dictators and their accomplices?
• Even if there is one instance that advocates for atrocities, genocides, dictatorships, and clearly false revisions of history, what does that have to do with the Lemmy as a system? Can't those instances just be defederated?

To be 100% clear, I am not a communist, aspiring dictator, or support genocides. I also do not believe that communism = dictatorships and the end of human rights. I believe in democracy, equitable distribution or power, individual human rights and freedoms. If I had to define a personal political identity, I would mostly fall under the term anarchist and do not advocate for violence against innocent people despite their political viewpoints (except Nazis because they're not innocent. Fuck Nazis).

I heard Beehaw defederated from Lemmy.world among others, but recently I have been seeing content from beehaw communities and users. Did they re-federate? If so, why? And if not, why am seeing updates from their servers again?

I vaguely recall reading that they expressed support for trans people and now conservatives are boycotting.

Just wondering what exactly they did and why enough people cared so much as to stop buying it.
