Hi. Been awhile since I'd been able to check in due to significant amount of real life issues. As a result I'm not able to moderate as much as I used to nowadays. Since there's only two mods including myself I decided to post a call to see if anyone's up for moderating the page.

Main requirements are reading and understanding the community guidelines and being on lemmy pretty often and willing to moderate when a report comes in. If anyone knows and is willing to do an ownership transfer then I'm open for that too though I'm fuzzy on how that's handled for Lemmy.

The technology uses tiny crystals to achieve both long-term effectiveness and the convenience of injections.

In the world of self-driving vehicles, Waymo is putting the competition to shame. While other autonomous cars are still learning the basics (like not hitting motorcyclists), Waymo is pulling off crash evasion so smooth it feels borderline unfair.

With cat-like reflexes, night vision, and the rare ability to both follow the rules and break them when necessary, Waymo is basically the Jason Bourne of robo-drivers.

We’ve found four clips that showcase Waymo’s superhuman driving skills and explain why it’s a whopping 12 times safer than your average human behind the wheel.

Banks will also be prohibited from charging NSF fees more than once within a period of two business days and in cases where the overdraft is less than $10.

To avoid bank account holders accidentally incurring an NSF charge, banks will also have to send an alert giving account holders at least three-hours' notice that a payment exceeds their bank balance. If the account holder deposits money to cover the payment within that period, banks cannot charge the fee.

A huge win for animal rights. It's not perfect, but we shouldn't let the absence of perfection get in the way of celebrating progress.

edit: Edited the title to clarify this is only for Mexico City, not all of Mexico.

#Hundreds of officers decertified

Lawmakers gave POST a year to set up the state’s decertification system, including hiring staff and establishing investigation procedures. From the start, the commission was playing catch-up.

That’s because, under SB 2, some decertification would apply retroactively. That includes officers who committed felonies, qualifying misdemeanors and certain kinds of misconduct — specifically dishonesty, sexual assault and use of deadly force.

So far, POST has received over 35,000 cases for review. About half of them involve incidents dating before 2023.

The reports include allegations against nearly 20,000 current or former officers who worked for big cities, small towns, universities and a slew of government agencies.

POST has completed investigations into more than 13,000 cases, with nearly 300 resulting in decertifications. Dozens of them voluntarily surrendered their badges.

Another 140 have had their certifications suspended while POST investigates.

For some families, Harvard University just got a little bit cheaper. The Ivy League institute located in Cambridge, Massachusetts—which costs about $83,000 annually in 2024—recently announced tuition will be free for families whose income is below $200,000 per year. If you’re a family whose household income is less than $100,00, the venerated institution will basically pay for everything. And I do mean everything: tuition, housing, fees, travel costs, event and activity fees– and if you need some cold weather gear to adjust to the Boston winters, Harvard is covering that, too. They’ll even give you a $2,000 start-up grant to get you situated; all you have to do is get in.

Tesco is to begin a trial giving expiring food to customers for free at the end of the day as it tries to cut food waste.

The supermarket will give away some already discounted "yellow sticker" items after 21:30 in some of its smaller Express stores in coming months.

Tesco already donates expiring food to charities and foodbanks. It says it is taking this step to try to meet its goal to halve food waste.

The company said the expiring food would be offered to charities and shop workers first, before customers could take it.

A spokesman said the trial would begin in a small number of its Express stores in the UK. The locations have not been specified, nor the starting date.

"This trial will allow customers to take any remaining yellow-stickered items for free at the end of the day, after they have first been offered to charities and colleagues," they added.

Tesco is Britain's largest supermarket chain, with a 27.8% market share. It has 3,700 UK stores and about 750 more abroad.
