So for the unaware, I moved over to db0 a few days ago due to a disagreement with administration on Lemmy.world. I moved over a couple of communities so I could continue posting in places that weren't on Lemmy.world and /c/TenForward was a consideration. However, the guys who currently run it there either weren't interested in helping mod a new community or weren't interested in porting TenForward. Totally fine. I have zero issue with this at all and still love and fully support the guys. If you wanna post over there, by all means! I just didn't want to post to a LW community anymore.

So, in the interest in not pissing off people I call my friend, I made a new community with a different name. I don't want to try and "steal" the name TenForward from them. I mean that'd just be rude. Like taking their name out from under them. At least that's how it might come off. The last thing I want to do is upset them. I love them and don't, in ANY WAY, want anyone criticizing them due to those decisions. It's their choice. That's the point of the fediverse! But, as one of em said, the great thing about the fediverse is that you don't need to centralize everything. So, I have made a new Trek memes community.

The only reason I never used Risa in the first place was because I left amicably. They proceeded to start an unholy amount of shit after the fact which sort of wiped out any respect I ever had for them in the first place. So.... Risa.

Anything they can do, I can do better.

Anything they can do, I can do better.

That's the spirit that brought us here from Reddit. That's the spirit that makes small communities managed by invested people better than namesitter communities waiting for people to build them.

Activity is what makes a community succeed.

Oh boy...

If you want the full story, check this thread. If you want to know more of the continuing stories, check this thread.

The tl;dr though? The admins of startrek.website are the same guys who made the subreddits on reddit and the ones who were responsible for giving those subreddits an extremely bad name. If you ever noticed a ton of subreddits for the individual episodes, even multiple for each, it's because of people who were running from them. They are psychotically abusive of their position, remove people for little to no reason, suppress any argument/position that they find distasteful, have completely misunderstood literally every single that that Star Trek teaches and personally harassed me by contacting admins from both multiple lemmy instances as well as my Mastodon instance to attempt to get me banned. Why? Because I was one of the biggest posters on their instance who noticed their abuse and left, taking the other big posters with me.

In short, they're thin skinned psychopaths who have no business calling themselves Trek fans when they have shirked every single duty to the truth that anyone in the Star Trek fandom has.

A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.
