PaRappa the Rapper (1996) (media.piefed.social)

My favourite rhythm game of all time. Can't play it with emulators because the input is extremely precise and sensitive to audio/input/display lag.

I've have seen this game in YT recommendation sometimes and this an immersive simulation game set in a highly soviet inspired dystopic cyberpunk city. The dev is also polish, so it checks out.

This game most likely will be on my bought list on the next Steam sale for sure :3

Tokyo Jungle (2012) (media.piefed.social)

Tokyo Jungle is a science fiction survival action game developed by Crispy's! and Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 3. The game takes place in a deserted, futuristic Tokyo, in which the city has transformed into a vicious wildlife wasteland.

I want a sequel/remake//remaster of this.

I came across this interesting website yesterday that I thought might be relevant to the interest of this community. I have no affiliation with this company. This is a company based out of the UK and that prints boutique hardcover art books based on video games and digital culture. I ordered their book on the Sega Dreamcast (it was kind of pricey, but I love the Dreamcast). I'll post some pictures and vouch for the quality after I receive my copy. In addition, the website hosts some neat articles and editorials. Just thought I'd share.

This is probably going to seem wildly low-effort compared to my usual posts here, but I've found a bit of a treasure trove of print media gaming ads from magazines and sites. And they're amazing. I found it so fun to see what companies used to do to promote their games.

Things have clearly changed a lot over time, some of them are insensitive or even outright sexist, but if you just look at it through a lens of being a time capsule, it's fun.

This one's going to be very image-heavy. If you're using Boost on iOS then you might struggle to scroll through this (or maybe not? It's happened with all my other posts though, so you've been warned), if that happens just visit using your browser :)

Game Boy Advance/SP:

The 'feet' collection were from an ad company in Stockholm, in 2005. I think it is to mean you're using hands to play the GBA, and only have feet left to use for real life:

PS2:

Nintendo Game Cube:

And that's that! Just interesting to see a time when gaming was a little more experimental and edgy.

I've been playing a bit of this classic the last couple of days. I love the game's comic book-esque look during the dialogue cutscenes. Very stylish.

Video Game Art

Video games are not mere time killers. They are albums of sound, aesthetics, animation and narrative.

This community is in appreciation of that. Screenshots, fanart, animations, gameplay clips. It is all welcome here.

The one common thread should be an eye for the aesthetic. This is not a place to discuss mechanics or stats, but to show off simply the artistic, expressed through the video game medium.

  1. All rules of the parent instance apply. That is, sopuli.xyz
  2. Include the name of the game your post is associated with in the post title.
  3. If your post is fanart, include a link to the artist in post body, if you can. You may also ping @saucechan@ani.social to have it attempt to find the source for you, and provide it in a comment.
  4. MARK ANY TEXT SPOILERS, as for art, do not post content that outright spoils key moments of a games narrative. Content that can only be understood with the context of having played the game, is ok.
  5. No generative AI art.
