I've been binging the series since the live action and I've noticed that Sanji is always either going off on his own to do his own thing or just being separated from the rest of the cast for some other reason. Like the first time I noticed it was during the fight with Mr. 3. I'm thinking wait, where the hell is Sanji? Surely he'll show up and save everyone. But no, he was just chilling drinking tea. It happened again in water 7 and darning the fight in Enies lobby. (I did like how he got a lot of action on the sea train to make up for it) And now i Just got to thriller bark he was the first one to get seperated from the crew. My theory is that he's too powerful and having him Zorro and Luffy together would be too much to deal with so Oda just finds ways to get him away from the group.
Edit: I get now that he's supposed to be the spy of the group, they usually make up for the lack of Sanji eventually by giving him his own big moments anyway. Thanks all for the responses. One piece is becoming my favorite anime.
