Colorado Governor Polis being openly gay and has won two elections with a large majority says everything you need to know why we are a protective state for LGBTQ rights.

I was pretty surprised too when I saw Colorado. Aren't they and their governor among the least progressive Democrats? And aren't they lax about their gun laws? Remember Colorado Springs?

Speaking of which, that city has a reputation as the "buckle in the Bible Belt" and is home to many evangelical seminaries. I'm glad Denver and Boulder are more open-armed, though the state as a whole could see more diversity.

Colorado Springs isn't the Evangelical base it was in the 90s. It's solid purple now and trending blue. A LOT of people flooded COS from Denver and changed the city dynamics.

Right now we have the most progressive legislature we've ever had. Progressives still didn't get their way on many issues (like assault weapons ban and rent control), but we are making headway. Colorado is solidly blue because of Denver and Boulder, and even CO Springs is getting less conservative (high housing prices pushed Denverites to move there). One example of a recent win is we now have universal pre-K, which is pretty damn progressive (I wish it wasn't, I wish it was normal to take care of the nation's children). We also put abortion protections into place. We could definitely use more diversity in some areas, but we also have a huge Latino population (21%). All in all, it's not bad.
