It has become muscle memory for me to open the app. My phone seems so empty now.

Slide refugee that has been here for a few weeks. I like it here!

I'd love to see day by day numbers on a chart of how many joined

Nice to have a new place to hang my virtual coat and peer into the endless void of the internet.

[-] Perfide@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

I'm really not ready. My Connect for Lemmy app is renamed to Lemmy is fun and is using the rif icon, it's hard to let go.

[-] thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Whatever gets you through these trying times!

[-] sizz@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

god damn haha.

[-] SeaJ@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I'm just glad I found a server that allowed me to register. Been trying for weeks. Lemmy.ml is closed for registration. Lemmy.world just spins when you hit the register button. Another instance just said my registration was pending.

Lemmy is the Future! :D

Are this active users? (Commenting/posting) or just traffic?

I ask as I spent time in different servers looking for one I liked before making an account, so it took a while before I became an 'active user'

[-] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Lemmy only counts activity as commenting or posting. Unlike Reddit which counted any eyeball on a post as active. However, this is a traffic graph from the server, not from Lemmy itself.

[-] Invader753@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

We are still going on infinity.

[-] ComfortablyGlum@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Thank you for your warm welcome.

I never used a reddit ap, nor have I moderated, but I've watched the happenings and been incredulous at Huffman's (and subsequently Reddit's) behavior.

I just joined today and could use some assistance finding communities that I'd fit into. I'm into Cybersecurity and all matters of computing. If anyone has a suggestion please reply and thanks for having me :)

https://lemmyverse.net/communities This is a good start in search for communities. You can enter your home instance(in your case lemmy.ca) by clicking on the house symbol at the top right and then search for communities like "security".

When you click on one, it'll automatically lead you to the adress based on your home instance and you can immediately subscribe to them form there.
https://lemmy.ca/c/cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works could be of interest for example

[-] Datas_Cat_Spot@startrek.website 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not subbed to any, but I see a TON of them as a scroll through All. You'll be in good company!

Welcome!

[-] scraun@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

Came over a few days ago, and the infrastructure is so much better in concept than Reddit ever was.

[-] Tee778@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Hello, my first comment here. How do I save images? (Iโ€™m using wefwef app for ios btw)

[-] KMohZaid@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

i don't know about ios but some client allow you to copy image url, just copy image url and paste in browser long press on image and click save/download. If client not provide image url then copy post url and open it in browser then follow same steps from long press on image

[-] Zana@startrek.website 1 points 1 year ago

I'm on wefwef on Android and I can just hold down on the image and the context menu has both download and copy. I don't have an iPhone to test if it's the same though

[-] tastypotato@exploding-heads.com 1 points 1 year ago

Just uninstalled RIF this morning when I opened it up like I always do when I wake up.

It was a good run but dang. Now I'm trying to figure all of this fediverse stuff. The app Jerboa on Android seems to be working pretty well.

[-] rm_dash_r_star@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I was interested to see what the rush was going to be like when Reddit mobile apps shut down. Looks like it might be pretty significant. Is this bigger than the blackout rush?

[-] thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

We'll soon find out based on how many times we have to copy paste an explanation of how community search works to confused new Lemmings ๐Ÿ˜„

What app is most like Bacon Reader? I'm on Connect but feeling a little lukewarm so far

[-] IntegrationLabGod@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

That's your best bet at the moment. Liftoff was another decent option but latest update doesn't see the lemm.ee instance for some reason. Things will get better on the app front in a month or 2 when Boost and Sync go live.

[-] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 1 points 1 year ago

I'm on the Thunder train. Most like Sync.

[-] Hanhanbu@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Hi there! What are some good subs for anyone trying to stay away from nsfw?

[-] tatertime@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

you can literally turn of nsfw when you make your sign in on a lemmy server.

[-] rm_dash_r_star@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah there's a checkbox for it under profile settings. There's a ton of great communities, I've subscribed to around 40. Once you get a good set of communities can just set your default to "Subscribed" in profile settings. That will be your front page. You don't really want to use "Local" because it may not be very active. "All" has a lot of stuff in it you may not want to see. There's a few communities where I don't ever want to see their content. See lemmyverse.net for community info. There's a lot of good communities on kbin as well (you can access those from Lemmy and vice versa).

[-] Sololop@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I want to create a community for my local city but when I click the button after entering the name, description, logo, etc. Nothing happens. Do I need to do something first?

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Does it already exist on your instance? I think it needs to be lowercase too.

[-] sunaurus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Hey! Unfortunately, the errors on community creation are not currently properly displayed in the frontend. What name are you trying to create the community with?

The most common reason for failure is simply the community name already being in use.

[-] Sololop@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Hmm, I did a search for it again upper and lower case and it didn't return a result. I'll keep playing around and see how I get on, thanks!

[-] sunaurus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Just checking - are you definitely trying to create the community with a lowercase name?
