I am trying to buy Monero for the first time, but I don't know which way to the best and easiest and hoping to get some guidance. I have Cake Wallet and I can purchase Monero through there, but I can't tell if they have the best rates. I also came across Haveno, which is a decentralized Monero exchange, but I don't know if that something I should use. There is also Trocador. Of all of these options, which one would be the best for begineer? Note: I am just trying to purchase a small amount of Monero ($10-20), nothing big.

Oh this great site! Now I can find other exchanges as well. Thank you!

I have used retoswap successfully. However 0.11 Monero is needed in order to use it for the first time. (At the time I tried it)

Having a friend who can lend you something to start might be a good idea.

Or, retoswap orders can be created with a passphrase, so someone could contact you or OP and as long as you have the passphrase you don't need the 0.11 XMR bond to trade, and the passphrase unlocks it

Interesting. I have just enough, but this information is helpful for the future. Thank you!

If you already have another coin, Trocador Swap is the easiest option (and you can get the best rates).

Without it my comment will not appear in the community. Lemmy does this automatically under the hood, but I use a different software (it is closer to a microblog than a forum).

A bit late to the question, but you can also use our Haveno instance dawnswap.com as the lowest amount to buy is 0.02 xmr. If you don't have xmr for the security deposit which is 5 % then let me know by PM and i'll provide you a passphrase for a trade order you can use to buy xmr without deposit.

I'm all set for now, but I will further look into dawnswap for future transactions as it looks promising. Thank you.

On the right side of this monero.town lemmy website is a Trocador link.

But since you asked about the best way for beginners, I would like to mention Edge App and Monero.com / Cake Wallet.

I'll take a look at the Edge app. Thank you.

Good choice! In some regions like Europe, you may have to buy a different currency first and then exchange it for Monero as the next step.
