Reminds me of

'Keyboard not found
Press F1 to Resume'

(Back in the PS/2 days a keyboard wouldn't work if not connected at boot, so F1 could never be typed there)

I think the "Press F1 to Resume" was for the unlikely scenario where the BIOS did not detect a keyboard, despite one being connected before boot. So if you knew for a fact that your keyboard was connected and working, you could press F1 to continue with the boot process.

That does make sense. But like you say it wouldn't have been common, especially compared to the keyboard being unplugged or not-enough-plugged-to-work

Before USB, I never saw it happen that I was able to press F1 (or other keys asked by other BIOSs).

Those of the USB lifestyle will never know such horrors. Lol

That's sometimes done to reset disk encryption configurations (Bitlocker) tied to secure boot when automatic unlock is glitching

It's been a long time since I saw an American megatrends bios screen. I had no idea they still existed.

As far as I know a big portion of BIOSs are still made by American Megatrends, but with custom skins by the vendors
