To much time. Maybe if it was Dec. 30th I'd feel better

[-] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago

Pretty rough day for news.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Why? What else happened? I'm just waking up.

[-] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago

Trump arresting journalists.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 months ago

only a problem in shitholes.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Or for people who live next to shitholes. Or have any natural resources that people who live in shitholes want. Or live anywhere where an elected representative has hurt the ego of the shithole in chief.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Or who live on a planet affected by e.g. the [anti-]environmental policies of said shithole.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

That's very short-sighted

[-] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Very insightful.

[-] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Outside of the obvious Home Alone and Schitt's Creek, what are some of her works that I can go back and watch to honor her memory?

[-] desiccated_event@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 months ago

SCTV, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Beetlejuice, oh, so many...and cartoon voices, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Committed. She was everywhere and I can assuredely say, welcome.

The last time one of our photogs saw Catherine was at LAX in February 2024 ... when we asked her what role she would most want to be remembered for.

Author then neglects to say what her answer was now that it is most relevant...

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 4 points 2 months ago

Im guessing the answer is in the video above that paragraph, so we'll never know.

If you're putting info in a video in a news article, you may as well bury it beneath the sands of the taklamakan desert.

[-] anon6789@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

"The mother of my children." is the quote from the video.

[-] officermike@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

You have provided a great public service. Thank you.

[-] officermike@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Couldn't have even told you there was a video on the page. I mostly browse the news while I'm at work, avoiding doing work. I have trained myself to ignore videos on news articles because I can't have the sound on. So yeah, info in a video embedded on a news site doesn't exist for me.

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

100%. I only spotted it because i read your comment before the article.

[-] Tiger@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Goodness, I had to write something referencing the Taklimakan desert just a few days ago so it’s bizarre to see it mentioned.

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

It was the funniest sounding desert i could remember off the top of my head.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Even 71 is too early, what happened?

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Catherine famously played Macaulay Culkin's mother in the first two 'Home Alone' movies ... and she appeared as Moira Rose in 80 episodes of "Schitt's Creek."

Other notable movie credits include a couple mockumentaries in 2000's "Best in Show," and 2003's "A Mighty Wind" ... plus "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" and the OG "Beetlejuice."

How fucking ignorant is TMZ. She was famous way before that for SCTV. The irreplacable Lola Heatherton.

[-] kandoh@reddthat.com 3 points 2 months ago

She could break my Christmas balls like no one else

Sad caw sounds

[-] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

RIP funny lady.

[-] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

Rest in peace, she was an iconic actress, and very very funny.

I am devastated right now. If trump doesn't die this year then there is no justice in the world.

[-] Glifted@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

...oh man. I don't know how to tell you this...

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 months ago

2026 can eat a bag of dicks

[-] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 0 points 2 months ago

It seriously can. Fuck it's still only January.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

"Sorry, it's been a rough year...."

"Lemon, it's January."

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

david bowie, alan rickman, catherine o'hara. why does january suck?

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

David Bowie died a decade ago.

[-] Hayduke@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Well that’s some bullshit right there. She was amazing.

[-] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 months ago

Damn. RIP. She was one of the comedy greats. Pretty much unmatched timing IMHO.

[-] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

This is very sad news. She was great in every role.

“Oh they’re comin.’ Oh they’re comin.’ And watch out they got a lot of kids!

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

So many names I would rather see in the headline instead

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Absolutely brutal. Felt ill when I read it. The unexpectedness of it makes it so much worse I think.

Actually devastated that Schitts Creek is now forever done. Thought maybe we would get a movie.

I think it's obvious she was widely loved and appreciated...I can imagine the particukar pain the Levys are feeling right now, besides her family obviously

[-] albbi@piefed.ca 1 points 2 months ago

Her dancing to Harry Belafonte while being possessed is one of my core memories.

[-] alekwithak@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Nightmare Before Christmas, either. O'Hara was a huge part of my childhood :'(

[-] RandomStickman@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

Aw man, she's great in Schitt's Creek
