Buying it with your money.
Or drug money from selling to a foreign country
How lovely, our tax dollars at work 🙄
Why limit yourself to seized data from the US only if hosted in the US if you can buy data from all over the world. In some respects that is a very smart move, in some other is deplorable and arrogant.
It doesn't make sense while if this data, that would usually require a warrant if not already being sold, is allowed to be collected by companies.
Companies may argue that users consent to this in the terms and conditions of when they start using the product but what about those users that aren't a Google, Facebook or "insert tech corporation here" user? Those users never consented to data collection but their data is being collected just the same.
The issue is not the government buying this data. That is just a symptom of the root cause which is lack of consumer privacy laws.
Indeed.
I'm afraid that even laws aren't the root cause. I'm pretty concerned about the infrastructure we have allowed to be built around us, and what we will continue to allow to be built going forward. Even if we had strong privacy laws, laws are fickle things. The only thing separating us from full on Orwellian dystopia is some bad policy changes, the technology is already in place and we bought it on purpose.
Is the only law regarding data protection in the US HIPPA? Just wondering...
It's just kindof funny that agencies can obtain information from companies that would normally require a warrant to get.
The parking lots in that photo of NSA HQ seems huge compared to the size of the building. How big are their basements? Where do all those people work?
american car dependency and minimum parking requirements, mostly
Dont those companies that collect your data always keep stressing how much they dont directly sell your data so third parties cant actually know its you?
Amazon's Data Re-Identification Services now free with Amazon Prime!
No surprise with their massive budget.
That's fine. I'm not important enough to pay attention to anyway. Pretty sure they'd be bored by my porn search history even.
Saying you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say.
I have nothing to say about this.
