Who are Hexbear? (lemmy.world)

I just noticed their instance pop up in the feddit browser and they are huge and established. Who are they? Whats the vig? Should I join some of their communities or do they have a particular agenda they're pushing?

They’re very left leaning, pro-trans, pro-gun, anti-conservative, and they like shitposting.

Sounds ok mostly! I don't mine a bit of they, them and the other.

This is unrelated and meta: is anyone else unable to see one of the comments on this post? I tried logging out to make sure it’s not just someone I’ve blocked, but still couldn’t see it. I tried making a post on lemmy.world about it but it won’t go through at all

After r/chapotraphouse was banned a portion of their users created hexbear, since lemmy was even less developed at the time they had to fork lemmy to make it usable for their community, recently they migrated back to lemmy as it is more established now. Ideologically they are communist.
