Fun fact: people who say "duck tape" aren't wrong! That used to be its name (due to the material used, which is called "cotton duck").

I was always told it was originally invented to patch Navy rafts and named for it's hydrophobic qualities, but yours sounds plausible, too now.

Never "duct tape", people. Ask any HVAC tech. 🤦🏽‍♂️
