I am very out of the loop with related recent tech, but once in a while i wish i had subtitles for internet clips, and i understand there's good tech out there for this these days. Is there something i can download in a typical headless Debian machine that i can then point at some MP4 clip to get subtitles? Even if imperfect it's better than trying to type that from scratch

I've used https://github.com/Softcatala/whisper-ctranslate2 before for transcribing English and translating non English audio into srt files and its been pretty good for TV shows for me. Its not perfect but it usually gets me about 95% of the way there

Ask all the different ai's out there and see if you get any good stuff. Report back. Duckduckgo chat, brave search and bing have it for free as well, hugging face meta llama 3 also free, Gemini google etc etc

I have no desire to interact with the hallucinating plagiarism machines if i can help it, that's why i asked PEOPLE, who have actually used the software i ask about
